COMMERCE, Ga. - Notes from final, round 4 qualifying in Pro Stock at the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, 29th annual Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Southern Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run: Left Lane: Dave Northrop Runs 6.723/203.61, Now #19; No Prior Run 2:56 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 75 degrees, relative humidity 23 percent, barometer 29.39 inches, adjusted altitude 1,984 feet, track temperature 108 degrees. Kurt Johnson is on the bump spot at 6.638. Northrop made a clean, straight
run, missed the cut. Left Lane: Erica Enders Runs 6.740/203.68, Now #20; Best prior run: 6.731/204.48, Was #20 Right Lane: John Gaydosh Jr Runs 6.769/204.01, Now #21; Best prior run: 6.769/203.61, Was #21 It's gotta be tough coming into the final session a tenth slower than the bump time. Enders had a very good launch, a 0.986 60-foot time, ran out of steam on the top end. Left Lane: Ronnie Humphrey Runs 6.653/207.56, Now #17; Best prior run: 6.640/208.46, Was #17 Right Lane: Justin Humphreys Runs 12.947/66.33, Now #18; Best prior run: 6.692/206.45, Was #18 These two were the last drivers in line with a chance to bump KJ from the field. Nope! Humphreys shook and slowed, Humphrey came up short. Left Lane: Steve Spiess Runs 6.658/207.53, Now #15; Best prior run: 6.629/207.98, Was #15 Right Lane: Kurt Johnson Runs 6.642/208.26, Now #16; Best prior run: 6.638/208.81, Was #16 Both drivers are safely in the field, but the bottom of the field is not a good starting spot at this event (or most others, for that matter). Johnson's car appeared to bobble a bit on the launch and his 1.000 60-foot time bears that out. No improvement for either driver, they both have a tough row to hoe tomorrow. Left Lane: V. Gaines Runs 6.661/207.46, Now #12; Best prior run: 6.617/207.88, Was #12 Right Lane: Tom Hammonds Runs 6.628/207.94, Now #14; Best prior run: 6.625/208.65, Was #14 Both drivers had good short times, Hammonds with very consistent results in his last three runs. Left Lane: Rickie Jones Runs 6.629/208.71, Now #11; Best prior run: 6.616/208.94, Was #11 Right Lane: Rodger Brogdon Runs 6.655/207.11, Now #13; Best prior run: 6.624/208.94, Was #13 Two more good-looking runs, no improvement. In fact, most this session have fallen off slightly from the performance they showed in the first session of the day. Left Lane: Warren Johnson Runs 6.642/209.49, Now #8; Best prior run: 6.598/211.26, Was #8 Right Lane: Larry Morgan Runs 10.735/80.82, Now #10; Best prior run: 6.604/209.14, Was #10 Both drivers have steadily improved with each of their three runs so far this weekend, but both lost ground in this session. WJ lost a few hundredths, Morgan had problems early and pushed in the clutch. Left Lane: Allen Johnson Runs 6.636/208.07, Now #7; Best prior run: 6.582/208.94, Was #7 Right Lane: Johnny Gray Runs 14.017/59.69, Now #9; Best prior run: 6.599/209.14, Was #9 AJ has also steadily improved with each run so far, while Gray had a very good run right out of the box, then two aborted passes. For the third run in a row, Gray's car started dancing about 100 feet out and he will not have lane choice against
"The Professor" tomorrow. AJ made a good run, like most losing about five hundredths from earlier today. Left Lane: Jeg Coughlin Runs 6.596/209.46, Now #5; Best prior run: 6.578/210.14, Was #5 Right Lane: Greg Stanfield Runs 6.614/209.46, Now #6; Best prior run: 6.581/210.01, Was #6 Same story here, both drivers with a nice pattern of small improvements with each of their first three runs. Both
lost a little from their earlier run today, Jeg posting the best run of the session so far. Left Lane: Ron Krisher Runs 6.602/209.04, Now #4; Best prior run: 6.574/209.69, Was #4 Right Lane: Jason Line Runs 6.589/210.24, Now #3; Best prior run: 6.570/211.13, Was #3 Both had very good runs earlier today, both were not quite as quick or fast this time out, but Line took over as 'best of the session" and Krisher wasn't far behind. Left Lane: Mike Edwards Runs 6.578/209.92, Now #2; Best prior run: 6.565/210.28, Was #2 Right Lane: Greg Anderson Runs 6.588/210.24, Now #1; Best prior run: 6.557/210.93, Was #1 Great short times for both - 0.983 for Edwards and 0.984 for Anderson. Great runs for both, Edwards best of the session, Anderson second-best, and they stay #1 and #2 going into eliminations tomorrow.
