Pro Stock Motorcycle Qualifying Notes, Session #2
By Darryl Jackman

POMONA, Calif. - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Pro Stock Motorcycle at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, 44th annual Automobile Club of Southern California NHRA Finals listing lane, rider name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Chris Rivas Runs 7.136/183.02, Now #12; No Prior Run

1:22 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 81 degrees, relative humidity 27 percent, barometer 28.86 inches, adjusted altitude 3,060 feet, track temperature 102 degrees.

Conditions are pretty nasty out right now and I'm not expecting a lot from this session. Rivas pass kind of confirms that.

Left Lane: James Surber Runs 7.379/172.59, Now #20; Best prior run: 7.548/160.98, Was #21
Right Lane: Ryan Schnitz Runs 7.325/178.19, Now #19; Best prior run: 7.374/175.91, Was #19

No real help here.

Left Lane: Freddie Camarena Runs 7.431/178.28, Now #21; Best prior run: 7.482/179.06, Was #21
Right Lane: Valerie Thompson Runs 7.230/181.62, Now #18; Best prior run: 7.255/178.50, Was #18

Camarena loses a nickel and Thompson not quite as much.

Left Lane: Shawn Gann Runs 11.367/70.49, Now #17; Best prior run: 7.212/178.64, Was #17
Right Lane: Peggy Llewellyn Runs 7.304/180.52, Now #16; Best prior run: 7.211/181.40, Was #16

Gann sat up on the bike by around 330ft and Llewellyn loses a dime.

Left Lane: Matt Guidera Runs 7.146/183.39, Now #14; Best prior run: 7.167/182.21, Was #14
Right Lane: Mike Berry Runs 7.183/184.14, Now #15; Best prior run: 7.198/181.37, Was #15

Both riders are slightly quicker that Thursday.

Left Lane: Michael Phillips Runs 7.646/134.18, Now #12; Best prior run: 7.135/189.02, Was #11
Right Lane: Junior Pippin Runs 7.057/184.75, Now #4; Best prior run: 7.138/182.53, Was #13

Pippin makes a huge move and moves his Pippen powered bike right up near the top. Phillips sits up early.

Left Lane: Hector Arana Runs 7.255/154.39, Now #11; Best prior run: 7.134/185.03, Was #11
Right Lane: Craig Treble Runs 7.147/184.12, Now #10; Best prior run: 7.134/185.84, Was #10

Arana sits up early and coasts across the line. Treble falls off just a tiny bit from round 1.

Left Lane: Angie McBride Runs 7.175/183.12, Now #9; Best prior run: 7.123/182.62, Was #9
Right Lane: Karen Stoffer Runs 7.033/187.39, Now #4; Best prior run: 7.109/183.67, Was #7

Stoffer is the second rider to make a big move in the session but McBride loses a nickel.

Left Lane: Chip Ellis Runs 13.205/56.52, Now #8; Best prior run: 7.112/185.13, Was #8
Right Lane: Steve Johnson Runs 7.186/185.66, Now #7; Best prior run: 7.107/186.56, Was #7

Ellis sits up early and coasts over next to the wall to finish his run. Johnson fails to improve.

Left Lane: Andrew Hines Runs 7.042/187.50, Now #5; Best prior run: 7.058/188.28, Was #6
Right Lane: Angelle Sampey No Time, Now #3; Best prior run: 7.024/185.33, Was #3

Sampey's bike simply didn't react when she let the clutch out. She slowly rolled down track and finally got timed out by the system. Hines picks up a spot to #5.

Left Lane: Matt Smith Runs 7.049/186.28, Now #2; Best prior run: 7.024/186.48, Was #2
Right Lane: Eddie Krawiec Runs 7.013/188.70, Now #1; Best prior run: 7.017/187.23, Was #1

Krawiec saves the best for last as he actually manages to improve on his Thursday run. It was only by .004, but better none the less. Smith loses .02 and remains #2.
