Top Fuel Qualifying Notes, Session #2

MILLINGTON, Tenn. - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Top Fuel at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, 21st annual O'Reilly Mid-South Nationals presented by Pennzoil listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Tony Schumacher Runs 3.859/305.29, Now #1; Best prior run: 6.728/83.95, Was #15
Right Lane: Pat Dakin No Time, Now #17; No Prior Run

Dakin started drifting out of the groove and finally crosses the centerline and collects the top end cones. Schumacher launched hard and keep it hooked up to go to the number one spot...Tony Schumacher's incremental times: 60ft-0.846 sec., 330ft-2.157, 660ft-3.072/275.39 mph.

Left Lane: Rod Fuller Runs 3.909/292.96, Now #4; Best prior run: 4.211/229.39, Was #15
Right Lane: Morgan Lucas Runs 3.924/298.93, Now #8; Best prior run: 4.046/288.09, Was #14

Weather conditions: air temperature 75 degrees, relative humidity 47 percent, barometer 29.66 inches, adjusted altitude 2,086 feet, track temperature 91 degrees.

Lucas started to drift out of the groove, but reeled it in. Fuller with a nice looking pass...Rod Fuller's incremental times: 60ft-0.838 sec., 330ft-2.159, 660ft-3.090/269.29 mph.


Left Lane: J.R. Todd Runs 3.949/305.70, Now #12; Best prior run: 4.044/253.52, Was #15
Right Lane: Clay Millican Runs 3.911/307.58, Now #5; Best prior run: 3.960/300.73, Was #12

Todd with a little wiggle in the middle of the track, he gets into the show for now. Millican with a great looking pass here to go to the number five spot. Millican with the fastest pass of the event. Clay Millican's incremental times: 60ft-0.860 sec., 330ft-2.192, 660ft-3.127/271.30 mph.

Left Lane: Bob Vandergriff Runs 3.861/312.13, Now #3; Best prior run: 4.034/234.29, Was #15
Right Lane: Doug Herbert Runs 3.853/311.49, Now #1; Best prior run: 3.950/291.95, Was #13

This was a great drag race with Herbert going to the number one spot. Doug Herbert's incremental times: 60ft-0.848 sec., 330ft-2.163, 660ft-3.079/276.63 mph. Vandergriff ties his best E.T. of the 1000-foot era. Bob Vandergriff's incremental times: 60ft-0.853 sec., 330ft-2.162, 660ft-3.084/273.72 mph.

Left Lane: T.J. Zizzo Runs 7.814/81.42, Now #15; Best prior run: 3.978/300.66, Was #15
Right Lane: David Grubnic Runs 3.848/311.13, Now #1; Best prior run: 3.943/305.56, Was #13

Zizzo is up in smoke right off the starting line. Grubnic with great pass as he keeps the candles lit all the way down the 1000 feet into the number one spot. David Grubnic's incremental times: 60ft-0.846 sec., 330ft-2.162, 660ft-3.073/276.46 mph.

Left Lane: Doug Kalitta Runs 3.838/311.20, Now #1; Best prior run: 3.935/300.60, Was #13
Right Lane: Antron Brown Runs 3.871/310.05, Now #6; Best prior run: 3.915/303.30, Was #10

Brown with a nice pass to move into the top half of the show. Antron Brown's incremental times: 60ft-0.848 sec., 330ft-2.168, 660ft-3.092/273.72 mph. Kalitta with his best pass E.T. and mph since the 1000-foot era to go to the number one spot. Doug Kalitta's incremental times: 60ft-0.850 sec., 330ft-2.162, 660ft-3.066/278.40 mph.

Left Lane: Cory McClenathan Runs 3.873/310.13, Now #8; Best prior run: 3.924/304.32, Was #12
Right Lane: Larry Dixon Runs 3.865/308.50, Now #6; Best prior run: 3.909/301.47, Was #8

A couple solid passes, and Dixon moves into the top half of the show. Larry Dixon's incremental times: 60ft-0.851 sec., 330ft-2.166, 660ft-3.084/274.27 mph. McClenathan with a nice pass...Cory McClenathan's incremental times: 60ft-0.850 sec., 330ft-2.171, 660ft-3.093/273.44 mph.

Left Lane: Hillary Will Runs 3.826/313.66, Now #2; Best prior run: 3.915/303.91, Was #12
Right Lane: Brandon Bernstein Runs 3.825/313.88, Now #1; Best prior run: 3.888/307.51, Was #9

What a great drag race to wrap up day one of qualifying. These two go to numbers one and two. Brandon's pass is the tenth quickest pass since moving to 1000 feet. Hillary Will's incremental times: 60ft-0.849 sec., 330ft-2.150, 660ft-3.058/278.06 mph.
Brandon Bernstein's incremental times: 60ft-0.840 sec., 330ft-2.146, 660ft-3.055/277.83 mph.
