Top Fuel Qualifying Notes, Session #3

CONCORD, N.C. - Notes from round 3 qualifying in Top Fuel at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, Inaugural NHRA Carolinas Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Right Lane: Tim Boychuk Runs 4.110/247.57, Now #13; No Prior Run

Weather conditions: air temperature 90 degrees, relative humidity 55 percent, barometer 29.39 inches, adjusted altitude 3,624 feet, track temperature 117 degrees.

Boychuk gets it down the track this time, but is off the throttle early. Tim Boychuk's incremental times: 60ft-0.913 sec., 330ft-2.261, 660ft-3.221/261.67mph.


Left Lane: Doug Foley Runs 3.975/302.55, Now #14; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Tony Schumacher Runs 3.879/306.19, Now #9; No Prior Run

Schumacher launched hard and then the engine let go around 800 feet and we have oil in his lane...Tony Schumacher's incremental times: 60ft-0.863 sec., 330ft-2.182, 660ft-3.101/276.58mph. Foley dropped a cylinder early, but stays with it. Doug Foley's incremental times: 60ft-0.883 sec., 330ft-2.236, 660ft-3.177/268.33mph.

Left Lane: Troy Buff Runs 3.923/303.50, Now #13; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Morgan Lucas Runs 4.022/299.53, Now #16; No Prior Run

After a very lengthy oil down, we get back into racing. Buff makes a very nice run and he will bump into the field, Lucas will place himself in the show but he goes in on the bump

Troy Buff's incremental times: 60ft-0.862 sec., 330ft-2.191, 660ft-3.128/270.27mph.
Morgan Lucas' incremental times: 60ft-0.878 sec., 330ft-2.240, 660ft-3.211/262.69mph.


Left Lane: Bob Vandergriff Runs 6.908/85.18, Now #12; Best prior run: 3.898/306.95, Was #12
Right Lane: Clay Millican Runs 3.965/304.74, Now #14; Best prior run: 3.931/305.77, Was #14

Vandergriff lost traction as soon as he hit the throttle, and had it side ways before he lifted. He did a good job keeping it in his lane. Millican with nice pass here in the heat of the day. Clay Millican's incremental times: 60ft-0.886 sec., 330ft-2.225, 660ft-3.170/269.35mph.

Left Lane: David Grubnic Runs 6.942/88.93, Now #8; Best prior run: 3.876/311.92, Was #8
Right Lane: Rod Fuller Runs 7.396/76.02, Now #11; Best prior run: 3.889/304.60, Was #11

Fuller lost traction right off the starting line and Grubnic also was up in smoke.

Left Lane: Brandon Bernstein Runs 4.697/159.89, Now #7; Best prior run: 3.875/309.49, Was #7
Right Lane: J.R. Todd Runs 7.985/93.58, Now #10; Best prior run: 3.883/312.93, Was #10

Todd was up in smoke right off the starting line. Bernstein started to loose traction around half track and he clicked it off.

Left Lane: Doug Herbert Runs 3.941/304.87, Now #5; Best prior run: 3.870/311.49, Was #5
Right Lane: Doug Kalitta Runs 3.992/298.60, Now #6; Best prior run: 3.872/309.77, Was #6

A couple good clean passes, but neither driver improves. Doug Herbert's incremental times: 60ft-0.867 sec., 330ft-2.212, 660ft-3.151/272.23mph.
Doug Kalitta's incremental times: 60ft-0.880 sec., 330ft-2.240, 660ft-3.187/266.64mph.

Left Lane: Antron Brown Runs 6.462/93.26, Now #3; Best prior run: 3.865/311.20, Was #3
Right Lane: Hillary Will Runs 3.910/312.93, Now #4; Best prior run: 3.869/315.12, Was #4

Brown lost traction early and he clicked it off. Will with another good looking pass, and she has big top end speed again. Hillary Will's incremental times: 60ft-0.866 sec., 330ft-2.209, 660ft-3.134/274.89mph.

Left Lane: Cory McClenathan Runs 3.945/301.07, Now #2; Best prior run: 3.863/312.13, Was #2
Right Lane: Larry Dixon Runs 3.887/311.63, Now #1; Best prior run: 3.846/310.20, Was #1

Cory Mac with a nice clean pass...Cory McClenathan's incremental times: 60ft-0.866 sec., 330ft-2.198, 660ft-3.143/266.79mph. Dixon with the second quickest pass of session...Larry Dixon's incremental times: 60ft-0.859 sec., 330ft-2.186, 660ft-3.110/274.78mph.
