Pro Stock Qualifying Notes, Session #2
By Larry Sullivan

NORWALK, Ohio - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Pro Stock at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, Second annual Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Lee Zane Runs 6.975/196.22, Now #6; Best prior run: 8.594/112.50, Was #6

11:43 a.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 82 degrees, relative humidity 63 percent, barometer 28.83 inches, adjusted altitude 3,719 feet, track temperature 106 degrees.

Normally the slowest cars from the first session run first in the second, but it looks like they are lined up by points since Zane was one of the seven who got a time yesterday. By the way, the K&N Horsepower Challenge cars will run at the end of this session, so they at least get to watch several pairs of cars before making last-minute tweaks and choosing lanes.

Zane made a clean pass, but is obviously down on horsepower compared with the Challenge cars.

Left Lane: Jim Cunningham Runs 6.928/198.26, Now #6; Best prior run: 6.910/198.99, Was #5
Right Lane: Steve Spiess Runs 6.831/202.52, Now #1; Best prior run: 13.600/61.61, Was #7

Spiess had severe tire shake yesterday, Cunningham had a more-or-less normal run.

oth got clean launches today and Spiess went to the top of the list - for now.

Left Lane: Larry Nance Runs 6.791/203.43, Now #1; Best prior run: 6.895/201.13, Was #4
Right Lane: Kevin Lawrence Runs 6.857/198.99, Now #5; Best prior run: 6.900/189.73, Was #5

Nance and Lawrence both got down the track yesterday, before the "weeper-out." Nice run by Nance, almost career-best numbers.

Left Lane: Dave Northrop Runs 6.815/203.46, Now #2; Best prior run: 6.840/200.80, Was #4
Right Lane: Richie Stevens Runs 6.817/202.45, Now #3; Best prior run: 6.833/202.64, Was #3

This is the last pair with prior runs - the rest of the field never got past the staging lanes yesterday. Both improved slightly, neither got around Nance, and Northrop got around Stevens.

Left Lane: Todd Hoerner Runs 6.809/203.16, Now #3; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Vinnie Deceglie Runs 6.773/203.92, Now #1; No Prior Run

Right Lane: John Nobile Runs 6.785/203.00, Now #2; No Prior Run

Nobile made a good run, wiuth a 1.004 60-foot time. Naylor was only 1.02 for the first 60 feet and lost ground all the way.

Left Lane: Larry Morgan Runs 6.774/204.17, Now #3; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Rickie Jones Runs 6.773/202.97, Now #2; No Prior Run

Left Lane: Greg Stanfield Runs 6.779/203.16, Now #5; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Justin Humphreys Runs 6.771/203.65, Now #1; No Prior Run

Both clocked 1.00 60-foot times and they were side-by-side all the way. Humphreys knocked Deceglie off the top of the list.

Left Lane: Mike Edwards Runs 6.747/204.29, Now #1; No Prior Run
Right Lane: V. Gaines Runs 6.776/203.28, Now #6; No Prior Run

Edwards had 0.993 60-foot time and went to the top of the list, with low ET and top speed so far.

This is the last pair prior to the K&N Horsepower Challenge - and starter Rick Stewart just upped the track temperature sign to 112 degrees.

Right Lane: Warren Johnson Runs 6.754/205.98, Now #5; No Prior Run

AJ is the lone Dodge in the Challenge. WJ outran him slightly, neither went to the #1 spot and WJ could nopt match KJ's speed.

Left Lane: Greg Anderson Runs 6.754/204.88, Now #6; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Ron Krisher Runs 6.836/202.88, Now #23; No Prior Run

Anderson made a clean run, but Coughlin stayed atop the list. Krisher had a slow 60-foot time (1.046) and was six hundredths down to Anderson at half track.
