Pro Modified Round 1 Eliminations

ENGLISHTOWN, N.J. - Results of round 1 eliminations in Pro Modified at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, 39th annual Lucas Oil NHRA SuperNationals:

3:40 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 90 degrees, relative humidity 45 percent, barometer 29.84 inches, adjusted altitude 2,925 feet, track temperature 121 degrees.

Both drivers took their time at the green, then it was all Hernandez.

Payne's car shook and danced with hard tire shake, She pedaled, with the same result, and that was the end of her run. Rowe ran quicker than his qualifying effort to advance to round two.

Gray was away first and led past half track before Russo ran him down. John Russo's incremental margins (negative if behind): 60ft(-0.025), 330 ft(-0.022), 660ft(-0.007), 1,000ft(0.014). MOV: 0.0354 seconds (approximately 12 feet). Russo faces Rowe in round two, Rowe has lane choice.

Burgess was a tenth late and Tindle had an easy time of it to advnace to the quarterfinals, but he lost lane choice to Hernandez.

Castellana tried to spin the tires in the water, but the engine did not respond properly and he pulled over to the return road. Good pass by Commisso, but a tenth slower than his qualifying run.

Personett pulled the plug before half track, the reason not evident. Kuhns made a good run, but also a tenth off his qualifying pace.

Castellana had a very good raction time and took the holeshot win over Lastor. Mike Castellana's incremental margins: 60ft(0.011), 330 ft(0.002), 660ft(0.021), 1,000ft(0.031). MOV: 0.0328 seconds (approximately 12 feet). He will have lane choice against Kuhns in the quarterfinals.

Last pair. Baker had a good light, Pontieri had an even better light and won going away. He faces Commisso in round two, Commisso has lane choice.
