By Jim Samuel

ENGLISHTOWN, N.J. - Notes from final, round 4 qualifying in Pro Stock at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, 39th annual Lucas Oil NHRA SuperNationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: John Nobile Runs 21.878/33.45, Now #22; Best prior run: 18.443/42.15, Was #22

3:07 p.m. - Weather conditions: air temperature 89 degrees, relative humidity 30 percent, barometer 29.94 inches, adjusted altitude 2,509 feet, track temperature 128 degrees.

There were 22 Pro Stock drivers here competing for the 16 spots in eliminations tomorrow. At the start of this session, Johnny Gray was on the bump spot at 6.669 seconds.

Nobile launched and shook the tires right away. He had to click it off and that meant Nobile will not make the field for tomorrow.

Left Lane: Val Smeland Runs 6.854/199.85, Now #20; Best prior run: 6.854/200.65, Was #20

Smeland too k a long time to stage. When he finally got going, he had a 1.011 second 60-foot time and was not quick enough to make the field. Johnny Gray is on the bump spot at 6.669.

Left Lane: Jim Cunningham Runs 6.867/201.13, Now #19; Best prior run: 6.807/202.24, Was #19
Right Lane: Lee Zane Runs 6.893/199.64, Now #21; Best prior run: 6.873/197.94, Was #21

Neither driver was in the field. They both had clean runs but neither was quick enough to make the field.

Left Lane: Max Naylor Runs 11.633/74.49, Now #18; Best prior run: 6.709/205.26, Was #18
Right Lane: Johnny Gray Runs 6.692/207.56, Now #16; Best prior run: 6.669/207.56, Was #16

Naylor was outside the field, Gray was sitting in the bump spot. Naylor's car wiggled for the first 100 feet before he got off the throttle. Gray had a clean run and remains on the bump spot. Dave Northrup is the only driver not in the field who has yet to make his final qualifying attempt.

Left Lane: Dave Northrop Runs 6.692/206.13, Now #17; Best prior run: 6.682/206.86, Was #17
Right Lane: Vinnie Deceglie Runs 6.682/206.99, Now #15; Best prior run: 6.655/207.02, Was #15

Northrop was the last driver not in the field to make his fourth qualifying attempt. Northrup had a clean run but was not quick enough to make the field. Deceglie stayed in the number 15 spot in the order and will make the first Pro Stock start of his career tomorrow.

Left Lane: V. Gaines Runs 6.667/206.20, Now #14; Best prior run: 6.655/207.24, Was #14
Right Lane: Jeg Coughlin Runs 6.656/207.85, Now #13; Best prior run: 6.637/207.82, Was #13

Both drivers had clean runs but neither moved up in the order.

Left Lane: Mike Edwards Runs 6.665/207.66, Now #12; Best prior run: 6.634/208.01, Was #12
Right Lane: Larry Morgan Runs 6.679/207.69, Now #8; Best prior run: 6.627/208.26, Was #8

Another pair of clean runs that had no effect on the order.

Left Lane: Jim Yates Runs 6.672/207.08, Now #11; Best prior run: 6.628/207.40, Was #11
Right Lane: Dave Connolly Runs 6.650/207.59, Now #7; Best prior run: 6.627/208.36, Was #7

Two more clean runs with no effect on the order.

Left Lane: Greg Stanfield Runs 6.658/207.62, Now #10; Best prior run: 6.628/207.85, Was #10
Right Lane: Allen Johnson Runs 6.639/208.14, Now #5; Best prior run: 6.618/208.65, Was #5

Stanfield's car made a little move at the start. Johnson had the quickest of this session so far.

Left Lane: Justin Humphreys Runs 6.676/206.95, Now #9; Best prior run: 6.627/207.88, Was #9
Right Lane: Ron Krisher Runs 6.664/207.66, Now #4; Best prior run: 6.607/208.23, Was #4

Two clean runs...no effect on the order.

Left Lane: Jason Line Runs 6.629/208.75, Now #6; Best prior run: 6.620/209.23, Was #6
Right Lane: Warren Johnson Runs 6.656/208.94, Now #3; Best prior run: 6.605/209.52, Was #3

Line had a nice run for the low ET of this session so far. But as nice as the run was, it did nothing for his spot in the order.

Left Lane: Kurt Johnson Runs 6.653/208.65, Now #2; Best prior run: 6.600/209.36, Was #2
Right Lane: Greg Anderson Runs 9.283/99.17, Now #1; Best prior run: 6.599/209.23, Was #1

Anderson launched and got off the throttle at mid track. Nothing appeared to be wrong with the run so it's not clear if he had to shut down or if he did what he wanted to do on this run. Johnson had a clean run but was not quick enough to move up from the number two spot.

This is the 64th time in Anderson's career that he has qualified number one and the fourth time he has earned the top spot in the order here at Englishtown. It's his first number one start since the NHRA Winternationals in February.
