By Jim Samuel

ENGLISHTOWN, N.J. - Notes from round 3 qualifying in Pro Stock at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, 39th annual Lucas Oil NHRA SuperNationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Right Lane: Val Smeland Runs 6.854/200.65, Now #13; No Prior Run

12:28 p.m. - Weather conditions: air temperature 80 degrees, relative humidity 48 percent, barometer 29.97 inches, adjusted altitude 1,976 feet, track temperature 118 degrees.

Smeland had a clean run to move into the qualifying order. There are 22 drivers here competing for 16 spots, so his position is not safe.

Right Lane: Jim Cunningham Runs 6.807/202.24, Now #13; No Prior Run

Cunningham had a 1.005 second 60-foot time and put himself into the number 13 spot in the order for now.

Left Lane: Lee Zane Runs 6.873/197.94, Now #16; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Max Naylor Runs 6.709/205.26, Now #13; No Prior Run

Naylor had a nice run and moved into the number 13 spot for now. Zane was quick enough to get into the field but he's on the bump spot now.

Left Lane: Vinnie Deceglie Runs 6.655/207.02, Now #13; No Prior Run
Right Lane: John Nobile Runs 18.443/42.15, Now #18; No Prior Run

Deceglie is the latest driver to move into the number 13 spot. In the process, Zane got bumped out of the field. Nobile's car moved around on the track and he was not quick enough to make the field. Val Smeland is on the bump spot at 6.854.

Left Lane: Johnny Gray Runs 6.669/207.56, Now #14; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Dave Northrop Runs 6.682/206.86, Now #15; No Prior Run

Both drivers made the field for now with a pair of nice runs. Max Naylor is on the bump spot at 6.709.

Left Lane: Jeg Coughlin Runs 6.652/207.59, Now #13; Best prior run: 6.637/207.82, Was #12
Right Lane: Jason Line Runs 6.620/209.23, Now #6; No Prior Run

Line did not make the top 12 last night. Coughlin was in the number 12 spot. Line hit the 60-foot marker in 0.993 seconds. He had nice run except for a little bit of wiggle at the start. Line moved into the number six spot in the order and Coughlin, who had a clean looking run, dropped down one spot. Dave Northrop is on the bump spot at 6.682.

Left Lane: Larry Morgan Runs 6.650/207.62, Now #8; Best prior run: 6.627/208.26, Was #8
Right Lane: V. Gaines Runs 6.655/207.24, Now #14; No Prior Run

Gaines made the field for now with a nice trip down the quarter mile. Morgan had a clean run but it did not change his spot in the order. Every driver who was not in the field at the start of this session has now made his third qualifying pass, so there will be no more bumping this session. Johnny Gray is on the bump spot at 6.669.

Left Lane: Dave Connolly Runs 6.631/208.04, Now #7; Best prior run: 6.627/208.36, Was #7
Right Lane: Mike Edwards Runs 6.669/207.94, Now #12; Best prior run: 6.634/208.01, Was #12

Connolly had a fairly clean run but it was not as quick as last night. Edwards was a little slow coming out of the gate. Neither driver moved up in that order.

Left Lane: Allen Johnson Runs 6.665/207.37, Now #5; Best prior run: 6.618/208.65, Was #5
Right Lane: Jim Yates Runs 6.696/207.11, Now #11; Best prior run: 6.628/207.40, Was #11

neither driver was as quick as yesterday, so they will both stay where they were in the qualifying order.

Left Lane: Ron Krisher Runs 6.637/207.53, Now #4; Best prior run: 6.607/208.23, Was #4
Right Lane: Greg Stanfield Runs 6.686/206.16, Now #10; Best prior run: 6.628/207.85, Was #10

Since Line made his run, no one had been able to beat their ET from yesterday. Krisher and Stanfield were no exception. They both made runs that looked okay but neither had an effect on the qualifying order.

Left Lane: Warren Johnson Runs 6.642/208.62, Now #3; Best prior run: 6.605/209.52, Was #3
Right Lane: Justin Humphreys Runs 6.656/207.66, Now #9; Best prior run: 6.627/207.88, Was #9

Johnson's car moved around a bit as he traveled down the track. Humphreys was not as quick as he was last night.

Left Lane: Greg Anderson Runs 6.634/208.62, Now #1; Best prior run: 6.599/209.23, Was #1
Right Lane: Kurt Johnson Runs 6.711/208.10, Now #2; Best prior run: 6.600/209.36, Was #2

Johnson's car moved as soon as he launched and it left him with a 1.01-second 60-foot time. Anderson was not as quick as he was yesterday, but he still gets to hold onto the number one spot in the order. At the end of three sessions, Anderson is on top and Johnny Gray is on the bump spot at 6.669 seconds.
