Top Alcohol Dragster Qualifying Notes, Final Session

ENGLISHTOWN, N.J. - Notes from final, round 3 qualifying in Top Alcohol Dragster at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, 39th annual Lucas Oil NHRA SuperNationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:

Left Lane: Bruce Insinger Runs 6.775/217.91, Now #15; Best prior run: 7.792/175.62, Was #14
Right Lane: Gene Arrigoni Runs 6.353/239.53, Now #13; No Prior Run

11:34 a.m. - Weather conditions: air temperature 77 degrees, relative humidity 57 percent, barometer 29.98 inches, adjusted altitude 1,871 feet, track temperature 114 degrees.

Insinger has not had a good run all weekend. Like in the first two sessions, his car started slowly and lumbered down the track. This was the first time Arrigoni made a full run down the track.

Left Lane: Jackie Fricke Runs 8.434/94.28, Now #12; Best prior run: 5.925/175.46, Was #12
Right Lane: Tom Pickett Runs 6.142/241.41, Now #13; Best prior run: 6.374/212.69, Was #14

Fricke had trouble getting her car into reverse after her burnout. With some help from her crew chief, she got the car backed up and staged. Both cars launched and got out to about 330 feet when both cars started shaking the rear tires. Fricke stayed off the throttle but Pickett got back on the pedal to record his career best ET and speed.

Left Lane: Dave DeAngelis Runs 5.544/256.21, Now #10; Best prior run: 5.557/258.96, Was #10
Right Lane: Dan Mercier Runs 5.522/258.71, Now #8; Best prior run: 5.751/242.15, Was #11

DeAngelis did not make a run in the second session. In the first session, his car smoked and left oil on the track. His car started trailing smoke again from mid track to the end of the track. Mercier had a clean run to move up three spots in the order. It look like we'll be in a short delay while the Safety Safari cleans up after DeAngelis' car.

Left Lane: Rich McPhillips Runs 5.417/262.74, Now #6; Best prior run: 5.433/263.87, Was #6
Right Lane: Bruce Horner Runs 5.624/250.09, Now #11; Best prior run: 5.545/248.75, Was #11

Both drivers had clean runs but neither had an effect on their place in the qualifying order.

Left Lane: Diana Harker Runs 5.501/243.33, Now #5; Best prior run: 5.393/261.17, Was #5
Right Lane: Bill Evans Runs 5.428/263.92, Now #7; Best prior run: 5.475/263.15, Was #7

Two nice looking runs but neither driver moved up in the qualifying order.

Right Lane: Arthur Gallant Runs 11.052/103.61, Now #3; Best prior run: 5.370/269.08, Was #3

Gallant launched and shook the tries before he clicked it off.

Left Lane: John Finke Runs 5.258/280.43, Now #1; Best prior run: 5.365/273.83, Was #2
Right Lane: Travis Nicholson Runs 5.419/260.01, Now #2; Best prior run: 5.317/263.36, Was #1

Finke had his quickest pass of the weekend to take the number one qualifier spot away from Nicholson. TAD qualifying is over with Finke on the top and a 15 car field. Top Alcohol Funny car was scheduled to run next but race officials sent them back to the pits so that they get as close to the scheduled noon starting time for pro qualifying.
