Pro Stock Qualifying Notes, Session #2

ENGLISHTOWN, N.J. - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Pro Stock at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, 39th annual Lucas Oil NHRA SuperNationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:

Left Lane: Justin Humphreys Runs 6.627/207.88, Now #2; Best prior run: 7.647/134.15, Was #20

7:40 p.m. - Weather conditions: air temperature 82 degrees, relative humidity 40 percent, barometer 29.89 inches, adjusted altitude 2,122 feet, track temperature 102 degrees.

Humphreys' car had a little bit of wiggle at about 100 feet but he drove through it to record a nice run that moved him from outside the field to number two in the order for now.

Left Lane: Val Smeland Runs 6.864/199.32, Now #18; Best prior run: 7.574/140.23, Was #20

Smeland was not in the field and after this run, he still not in the field. This pass looked okay and moved him up two spots in the order, but it was not quick enough to put him into the field.

Left Lane: Jim Cunningham Runs 6.790/201.97, Now #18; Best prior run: 6.828/201.49, Was #17
Right Lane: Vinnie Deceglie Runs 6.663/207.15, Now #8; Best prior run: 13.443/63.03, Was #22

Deceglie went from outside the field to the number eight spot in the order. Cunningham did not make the field with this run. In fact, he got pushed down another spot because Deceglie jumped over him.

Left Lane: John Nobile Runs 6.664/207.08, Now #10; Best prior run: 6.764/206.04, Was #17
Right Lane: Dave Connolly Runs 6.627/208.36, Now #2; Best prior run: 7.828/127.92, Was #22

Nobile launched and the car slid a little bit to the right. He pulled the car back into the groove but the back end slid a little bit more. Even with all that movement on the track, Nobile was able to move up seven spots in the order and put himself into the middle of the field for now. Connolly had a strong run and moved up 20 spots in the order into the number two spot for now.

Left Lane: Dave Northrop Runs 6.657/207.15, Now #9; Best prior run: 6.718/205.66, Was #17
Right Lane: Johnny Gray Runs 6.644/207.94, Now #5; Best prior run: 7.070/158.76, Was #22

Gray had his career-best ET and career-best speed to move into the number five spot in the order. Northrup also had a nice run and moved up eight spots.

Left Lane: Jim Yates Runs 6.628/207.40, Now #4; Best prior run: 6.682/206.20, Was #18
Right Lane: Lee Zane Runs 7.110/165.54, Now #22; Best prior run: 6.989/196.27, Was #22

Zane is trying to qualifying for his first Pro Stock eliminations. His car moved to the right when he launched, then he got it straightened out. After that, his run looked okay but was not as quick as he was this afternoon. Yates had a clean run to move up 14 spots in the order.

Left Lane: Max Naylor Runs 6.686/204.29, Now #19; Best prior run: 6.676/207.34, Was #18
Right Lane: Larry Morgan Runs 6.627/208.26, Now #3; Best prior run: 6.737/204.88, Was #19

Morgan had a nice run to move up 16 spots in the order. Naylor was not as quick as this afternoon and dropped down one spot in the order.

Left Lane: Jason Line Runs 6.652/207.72, Now #10; Best prior run: 6.672/208.39, Was #17
Right Lane: Warren Johnson Runs 6.605/209.52, Now #1; Best prior run: 6.672/207.75, Was #18

Johnson was not in the field when he staged. At the end of this strong run, he was sitting on top of the order for now. Line moved up seven spots in the order with a clean run down the track.

Left Lane: V. Gaines Runs 6.650/206.67, Now #11; Best prior run: 6.666/206.23, Was #18
Right Lane: Allen Johnson Runs 6.618/208.65, Now #2; Best prior run: 6.659/207.02, Was #14

Gaines and Johnson both jumped up several spots with a pair of nice runs. Johnson is in the number two spot for now, Gaines went from outside the field to the number 11 position.

Left Lane: Greg Stanfield Runs 6.628/207.85, Now #7; Best prior run: 6.664/206.54, Was #18
Right Lane: Jeg Coughlin Runs 6.637/207.82, Now #10; Best prior run: 6.654/206.83, Was #13

Coughlin' car made a move, then wiggled down the track for a hundred feet or so. His pass was still good enough to move up three spots in the order. Stanfield moved up 11 spots with a strong run down the quarter mile.

Left Lane: Mike Edwards Runs 6.634/208.01, Now #10; Best prior run: 6.656/207.30, Was #15
Right Lane: Ron Krisher Runs 6.607/208.23, Now #2; Best prior run: 6.633/207.43, Was #9

Just about very driver to run so far has moved up in the qualifying order and these two are no exception.

Left Lane: Kurt Johnson Runs 6.600/209.36, Now #2; Best prior run: 6.646/209.10, Was #13
Right Lane: Greg Anderson Runs 6.599/209.23, Now #1; Best prior run: 6.622/208.52, Was #4

Anderson and Johnson each had nice runs down the track to move into the one and two spots at the end of the second qualifying session. Anderson's run was just five-thousandths of a second over the track record. At the end of the second qualifying session, Anderson is at the top of the order and Jeg Coughlin is in the number 12 spot in the order.
