Top Alcohol Dragster Qualifying Notes, Session #2

ENGLISHTOWN, N.J. - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Top Alcohol Dragster at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, 39th annual Lucas Oil NHRA SuperNationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:

Left Lane: Bruce Insinger Runs 7.792/175.62, Now #12; No Prior Run

3:02 p.m. - Weather conditions: air temperature 82 degrees, relative humidity 37 percent, barometer 29.91 inches, adjusted altitude 2,085 feet, track temperature 118 degrees.

In the first session, Insinger had a slow run down the quarter mile. He was even slower this time. The car went slowly down the track with fuel spewing out of the headers.

Left Lane: Diana Harker Runs 5.393/261.17, Now #3; Best prior run: 11.111/98.47, Was #14
Right Lane: Gene Arrigoni No Time, Now #16; No Prior Run

Arrigoni's car sounded odd before he did his burnout. After he did the burnout, Arrigoni could not get th car stopped and he kept going down the track. Harker took her car down the middle of her lane to move into the number three spot for now.

Left Lane: John Finke Runs 5.365/273.83, Now #2; Best prior run: 10.075/128.33, Was #14
Right Lane: Tom Pickett Runs 6.374/212.69, Now #13; Best prior run: 6.614/143.63, Was #12

Finke had a clean run to move up 12 spots in the order. Pickett was quicker than the first session but stays in the bottom of the field.

Left Lane: Jackie Fricke Runs 5.978/173.87, Now #12; Best prior run: 5.925/175.46, Was #11
Right Lane: Dan Mercier Runs 5.751/242.15, Now #10; Best prior run: 6.365/180.02, Was #12

Mercier lost at least one cylinder on the left side of the engine. Fricke drifted out of the groove and hugged the center line for a while.

Left Lane: Ken Winward Runs 5.523/256.06, Now #8; Best prior run: 5.714/243.46, Was #9
Right Lane: Arthur Gallant Runs 5.370/269.08, Now #3; Best prior run: 5.797/232.99, Was #11

Gallant had a nice run down the groove to move up eight spots in the order. Winward moved up one spot with a trip down the groove.

Left Lane: Rich McPhillips No Time, Now #6; Best prior run: 5.433/263.87, Was #6
Right Lane: Bill Evans Runs 5.669/241.93, Now #7; Best prior run: 5.475/263.15, Was #7

McPhillips could not get his car started so it was towed away from the lanes. Evans' car looked okay on the track but was not as quick as the first session, so his spot in the order is unchanged.

Left Lane: Richard Bourke Runs 6.966/130.63, Now #4; Best prior run: 5.389/266.42, Was #4
Right Lane: Travis Nicholson Runs 5.436/263.67, Now #1; Best prior run: 5.317/263.36, Was #1

Nicholson had his career-best ET in the first session and Bourke was not far behind him. This time out, Bourke got to mid track when his car started to leave spray some fluid out from the bottom of the rear end. Nicholson had another good run but was not as quick as the first session.
