Top Fuel Qualifying Notes, Final Session

JOLIET, Ill. - Notes from final, round 4 qualifying in Top Fuel at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, 11th annual Torco Racing Fuels Route 66 NHRA Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:

Left Lane: Cory McClenathan Runs 4.598/324.75, Now #8; Best prior run: 7.972/89.95, Was #16

Weather conditions: air temperature 84 degrees, relative humidity 67 percent, barometer 29.17 inches, adjusted altitude 3,495 feet, track temperature 104 degrees.

McClenathan launched hard and keep it hooked up all the way down the 1320...Cory McClenathan's incremental times: 60ft-0.855 sec., 330ft-2.180, 660ft-3.122/268.06mph, 1,000ft-3.913 He moves into the top half of the show.

Left Lane: T.J. Zizzo Runs 4.756/318.62, Now #14; Best prior run: 6.161/145.64, Was #16
Right Lane: Luigi Novelli No Time, Now #17; Best prior run: 9.850/104.43, Was #17

Zizzo is now on the bump and Novelli is not in the show. Novelli left before the tree was activated and wasted a nice looking pass. It appeared the engine was eating itself up on the top end. Zizzo with a nice pass get off the bubble...T.J. Zizzo's incremental times: 60ft-0.873 sec., 330ft-2.303, 660ft-3.271/267.59mph, 1,000ft-4.068

Left Lane: Bob Vandergriff Runs 4.789/307.51, Now #16; Best prior run: 4.879/261.17, Was #15
Right Lane: Rod Fuller Runs 4.602/319.60, Now #9; Best prior run: 6.049/226.16, Was #16

We are back after about three and half hour rain delay. This was a great drag race to start the evening. Weather conditions: air temperature 83 degrees, relative humidity 79 percent, barometer 29.13 inches, adjusted altitude 3,668 feet, track temperature 92 degrees.

Bob Vandergriff's incremental times: 60ft-0.875 sec., 330ft-2.233, 660ft-3.221/253.52mph, 1,000ft-4.063
Rod Fuller's incremental times: 60ft-0.865 sec., 330ft-2.198, 660ft-3.123/273.61mph, 1,000ft-3.908

Left Lane: David Grubnic Runs 4.565/317.87, Now #5; Best prior run: 4.642/313.80, Was #14
Right Lane: Doug Herbert Runs 4.634/301.13, Now #13; Best prior run: 4.622/318.62, Was #12

Grubnic with his best pass of the weekend to move into the top half of the field...David Grubnic's incremental times: 60ft-0.862 sec., 330ft-2.177, 660ft-3.088/274.50mph, 1,000ft-3.872 Herbert with another good looking pass, but doen't improve.

Left Lane: Morgan Lucas Runs 4.613/315.49, Now #11; Best prior run: 4.619/305.01, Was #12
Right Lane: Hillary Will Runs 4.596/322.19, Now #8; Best prior run: 4.594/324.67, Was #8

Lucas with his best pass of the weekend to move up the ladder one spot...Morgan Lucas' incremental times: 60ft-0.871 sec., 330ft-2.200, 660ft-3.127/271.62mph, 1,000ft-3.915 Will with another good looking pass, but will stay eighth. Hillary Will's incremental times: 60ft-0.891 sec., 330ft-2.223, 660ft-3.131/276.13mph, 1,000ft-3.910

Left Lane: Brandon Bernstein Runs 4.633/322.96, Now #12; Best prior run: 4.616/325.30, Was #12
Right Lane: Doug Kalitta Runs 4.773/310.70, Now #7; Best prior run: 4.574/319.52, Was #7

It appears Kalitta had a hole at the hit. No help here for Bernstein, but still a good clean pass.

Left Lane: Larry Dixon Runs 4.721/253.52, Now #3; Best prior run: 4.525/325.61, Was #3
Right Lane: J.R. Todd Runs 4.867/232.39, Now #4; Best prior run: 4.555/328.14, Was #4

Todd started to haze the tires, and then the engine let go with a quick flash of flame. Dixon slowed on the top end...Larry Dixon's incremental times: 60ft-0.861 sec., 330ft-2.200, 660ft-3.128/270.97mph, 1,000ft-3.925

That wraps up Top Fuel qualifying as Schumacher and Brown chose not to run this session.
