Top Alcohol Dragster Qualifying Notes, Session #1

JOLIET, Ill. - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Top Alcohol Dragster at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, 11th annual Torco Racing Fuels Route 66 NHRA Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:

Left Lane: Randy Meyer Runs 5.478/258.86, Now #1
Right Lane: Rich McPhillips Runs 5.651/255.63, Now #2

4:38 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 84 degrees, relative humidity 63 percent, barometer 29.09 inches, adjusted altitude 3,541 feet, track temperature 104 degrees.
Meyer makes a great pass to start the session, right down the groove.

McPhillips was a little sluggish off the line but came on strong on the top end.

Left Lane: Brian Mans Runs 6.130/188.44, Now #3
Right Lane: Ray Hack Runs 6.395/238.98, Now #4

Mans was moving around all the way through the run but he still makes a decent pass. Hack was a little sluggish all the way through the run.

Left Lane: Todd Datweiler Runs 6.041/234.94, Now #4
Right Lane: Jeff Veale Runs 5.832/237.96, Now #3

Datweiler lost a couple of holes right off the line. Veale had a hole out on the right side, then lost one on the left side about 200 feet out.

Left Lane: Jared Dreher Runs 11.742/87.75, Now #8
Right Lane: Courtney Force Runs 5.724/245.27, Now #3

Force had a couple of holes out on the right at the hit and never picked them up. Dreher rattled the tires off the line and clicked it off about 300 feet out.

Left Lane: Noah Condo Runs 5.495/260.16, Now #2
Right Lane: Dana Stripe Runs 13.116/74.72, Now #10

Stripe goes up in smoke at the hit and clicks it off. Condo drifts out of the groove, then comes close to hitting the wall about 900 feet out. He never backs off the throttle and makes a decent pass to get in the second spot.

Left Lane: Justin Davis Runs 5.559/224.70, Now #4
Right Lane: Tim Bowgren Runs 5.533/255.68, Now #3

Davis was on a decent pass, then about 800 feet out starting losing the engine, smoke pouring out of the right side header. Bowgren makes a clean run and gets in the third spot for now.

Left Lane: Dave Hirata Runs 5.661/251.25, Now #7
Right Lane: Marty Thacker Runs 5.433/265.69, Now #1

Weather conditions: air temperature 84 degrees, relative humidity 61 percent, barometer 29.09 inches, adjusted altitude 3,570 feet, track temperature 98 degrees.

Thacker makes a great pass for the conditions and takes the blown car to the top spot for now. Hirata makes a decent pass and gets in the top half of the field.

Left Lane: Darryl Hitchman Runs 5.493/258.27, Now #3
Right Lane: Jeff Bohr Runs 5.514/265.12, Now #5

Bohr makes a move to the left right off the line but hangs on for a decent pass. Hitchman drifts out of the groove late in the run but hangs on to get in the third spot for now.

Left Lane: Richard Putz Runs 5.508/259.76, Now #5
Right Lane: Ken Perry Runs 5.586/252.43, Now #9

Perry makes a good run but probably lost an engine, smoke coming out of the right side header about 1000 feet out. Putz makes a good run and gets in the fifth spot for now.

Left Lane: Brandon Pierce Runs 5.452/269.83, Now #2
Right Lane: Thomas Bayer Runs 5.522/258.67, Now #8

A couple of good looking runs, both right down the groove.

Left Lane: Robin Samsel Runs 6.193/243.11, Now #18
Right Lane: Cody Perkins Runs 10.521/78.81, Now #20

Perkins gets about 300 feet out, loses traction, the rear of the car starts to come around and he backs off the throttle. Samsel had problems late in the run and clicked it off.

Left Lane: Morgan Lucas Runs 5.376/271.52, Now #1
Right Lane: Jim Whiteley Runs 5.403/267.32, Now #2

A couple of good runs, both right down the groove. Lucas takes the top spot, Whiteley gets in right behind in the second spot.

Left Lane: Arthur Allen Runs 6.902/135.32, Now #23
Right Lane: Shawn Cowie Runs 5.362/268.87, Now #1

Allen gets about 500 feet out and loses traction. Cowie makes a great pass, right down the groove and takes the top spot for now.

Left Lane: Aaron Tatum Runs 5.472/262.33, Now #6
Right Lane: Bill Reichert No Time, Now #28

Reichert completes his burnout, begins to stage, then shuts down, not sure why. Tatum makes a good run to get in the sixth spot for now.

Left Lane: Duane Shields Runs 5.504/267.69, Now #10
Right Lane: Brandon Lewis Runs 5.596/256.36, Now #17

Lewis makes a clean pass but comes up a little short. Shields gets in the field in the tenth spot.

Left Lane: John Finke Runs 5.498/258.17, Now #11
Right Lane: Spencer Massey Runs 5.492/271.57, Now #8

A couple of good runs to end this session, massey gets in the eighth spot, Finke in the eleventh.
