Top Fuel Qualifying Notes, Session #2

TOPEKA, Kan. - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Top Fuel at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, 20th annual O'Reilly NHRA Summer Nationals presented by Castrol GTX listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Morgan Lucas Runs 4.680/306.12, Now #6; Best prior run: 8.665/115.35, Was #13
Right Lane: Rod Fuller Runs 4.565/320.13, Now #1; No Prior Run

Fuller's first pass was thrown out because he was light at the scales. He comes back tonight and runs the quickest and fastest pass of the day. Rod Fuller's incremental times: 60ft-0.864 sec., 330ft-2.172, 660ft-3.090/273.05mph, 1,000ft-3.876 Lucas with a nice pass to get in the top half of the show. Morgan Lucas' incremental times: 60ft-0.884 sec., 330ft-2.239, 660ft-3.170/270.59mph, 1,000ft-3.968

Left Lane: Larry Dixon Runs 4.527/325.30, Now #1; Best prior run: 5.170/210.08, Was #12

Dixon with a picture perfect pass here, straight down the groove into the number one spot. Larry Dixon's incremental times: 60ft-0.851 sec., 330ft-2.158, 660ft-3.069/275.96mph, 1,000ft-3.846

Left Lane: Bob Vandergriff Runs 4.766/274.11, Now #11; Best prior run: 4.889/291.01, Was #12
Right Lane: J.R. Todd Runs 4.623/322.34, Now #3; Best prior run: 9.836/88.75, Was #15

Vandergriff was making a real nice pass until about 800 feet and that is when it started mixing up the cylinders, and looked like it pushed out a head gasket on the top end. Todd with a good clean pass to move up to number three on the ladder. J.R. Todd's incremental times: 60ft-0.872 sec., 330ft-2.223, 660ft-3.156/271.35mph, 1,000ft-3.939

Left Lane: David Grubnic Runs 9.783/88.89, Now #14; Best prior run: 4.786/283.79, Was #13
Right Lane: Alan Bradshaw Runs 4.679/304.12, Now #8; Best prior run: 5.470/174.05, Was #15

Grubnic is up in smoke as soon as he hit the throttle. Bradshaw with a good looking pass to go to the number eight spot. Alan Bradshaw's incremental times: 60ft-0.850 sec., 330ft-2.187, 660ft-3.141/262.69mph, 1,000ft-3.956

Left Lane: Joe Hartley Runs 4.670/321.81, Now #9; Best prior run: 4.779/271.41, Was #13
Right Lane: Antron Brown Runs 4.584/292.77, Now #3; Best prior run: 5.249/189.84, Was #15

Weather conditions: air temperature 81 degrees, relative humidity 42 percent, barometer 28.68 inches, adjusted altitude 3,506 feet, track temperature 96 degrees.

Brown with a great looking pass until right before the finish line when the engine went silent. Antron Brown's incremental times: 60ft-0.861 sec., 330ft-2.165, 660ft-3.082/273.33mph, 1,000ft-3.870 He still moves up to the number three spot. Hartley with another good looking pass. Joe Hartley's incremental times: 60ft-0.886 sec., 330ft-2.239, 660ft-3.188/266.79mph, 1,000ft-3.982


Left Lane: Brandon Bernstein Runs 4.623/324.75, Now #5; Best prior run: 4.733/314.39, Was #12
Right Lane: Doug Herbert Runs 4.609/313.15, Now #4; Best prior run: 4.765/292.65, Was #13

This was a good looking side-by-side drag race as they move up to numbers four and five. Brandon Bernstein's incremental times: 60ft-0.869 sec., 330ft-2.204, 660ft-3.143/268.06mph, 1,000ft-3.937
Doug Herbert's incremental times: 60ft-0.874 sec., 330ft-2.199, 660ft-3.121/272.23mph, 1,000ft-3.911

Right Lane: Cory McClenathan Runs 4.565/323.04, Now #2; Best prior run: 4.656/300.33, Was #9

Cory Mac launched hard and keep the candles lit all the way down the 1320 to go to the number two spot...Cory McClenathan's incremental times: 60ft-0.865 sec., 330ft-2.182, 660ft-3.106/272.72mph, 1,000ft-3.886 will was on good looking pass until right in the light lights when the engine let go with a huge fireball...Hillary Will's incremental times: 60ft-0.888 sec., 330ft-2.259, 660ft-3.217/261.93mph, 1,000ft-4.031

Left Lane: Tony Schumacher Runs 7.080/108.45, Now #9; Best prior run: 4.624/317.64, Was #8
Right Lane: Doug Kalitta Runs 4.590/324.83, Now #5; Best prior run: 4.647/305.22, Was #9

Schumacher lost traction around 250 feet and he clicked it off. Kalitta with good clean pass to go to the number five spot...Doug Kalitta's incremental times: 60ft-0.869 sec., 330ft-2.199, 660ft-3.121/272.01mph, 1,000ft-3.908
