BRISTOL, Tenn. - Notes from final, round 3 qualifying in Pro Modified at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, Eighth annual O'Reilly NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals presented by Q listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:

Left Lane: Taylor Lastor Runs 6.258/234.25, Now #17; Best prior run: 6.423/215.75, Was #19
Right Lane: Mike Knowles Runs 6.407/221.71, Now #20; Best prior run: 6.525/226.77, Was #20

3:22 p.m. Lastor makes a big improvement over yesterday but he doesn't get into the show. No help for Knowles.

Left Lane: Roger Burgess Runs 30.481/94.94, Now #19; Best prior run: 6.348/208.23, Was #18
Right Lane: Steve Engel Runs 6.039/240.68, Now #6; Best prior run: 6.394/236.01, Was #19

Burgess goes up in smoke right off the line and clicks it off. Engel goes right down the groove, gets in the sixth spot, and puts Jay payne on the bump in the process.

Left Lane: Tim Tindle Runs 13.147/74.38, Now #15; Best prior run: 6.170/231.16, Was #15
Right Lane: Jay Payne Runs 6.540/222.95, Now #16; Best prior run: 6.180/234.78, Was #16

Tindle rattles the tires right off the line and clicks it off early. Payne gets out of the groove, makes a move toward the centerline and has to back off the throttle around half track. He gets back on it, staying close to the centerline through the rest of the run and he stays on the bump.

Left Lane: Tony Pontieri Runs 7.879/109.58, Now #14; Best prior run: 6.148/234.86, Was #14
Right Lane: Rick Stivers Runs 6.095/236.30, Now #10; Best prior run: 6.104/233.96, Was #12

Pontieri gets way out of shape about 300 feet out and has to abort the run. Stivers goes right down the groove and moves up a couple of notches to the tenth spot.

Left Lane: Raymond Commisso Runs 12.959/77.39, Now #13; Best prior run: 6.117/242.02, Was #13
Right Lane: Joe Baker Runs 6.136/233.92, Now #11; Best prior run: 6.097/234.86, Was #11

Commisso loses traction at the hit and clicks it off about 100 feet out. Baker makes a straight, clean pass but doesn't improve.

Left Lane: Harold Laird Runs 6.939/147.21, Now #9; Best prior run: 6.084/233.84, Was #9
Right Lane: Mike Ashley Runs 6.208/238.60, Now #8; Best prior run: 6.065/239.53, Was #8

Laird was on a decent pass, then had problems around half track and shut down. No apparent problems for Ashley but he slows from his pass yesterday.

Left Lane: Joshua Hernandez Runs 6.020/238.85, Now #1; Best prior run: 5.950/241.11, Was #1
Right Lane: John Russo Runs 6.040/241.28, Now #7; Best prior run: 6.050/240.59, Was #7

A good side-by-side here, both right down the middle of the track. Russo improves a little but stays in the seventh spot.

Right Lane: Danny Rowe Runs 6.087/240.25, Now #4; Best prior run: 6.020/238.98, Was #4

Not a bad run for Rowe, just a little wiggle off the line.

Right Lane: Shelly Payne Runs 11.085/90.36, Now #3; Best prior run: 6.009/234.04, Was #3

Payne blows the tires off at the hit and shuts it down.

Right Lane: Kirk Kuhns Runs 6.963/138.87, Now #2; Best prior run: 6.006/234.98, Was #2

Kuhns makes a half-track pass and clicks it off.
