The Winter Rod and Speed Show is slated for January 5th at the Linn County Fair and Expo Center. The indoor show will feature show cars, street rods, race cars, exotics, and even a hydroplane. Featured in the show will be a half dozen dragsters and four blown alcohol funny cars. Show cars include the "Shock-n-Aw" Pacer Wagon that is three years in the making. The Pacer features an engine so big that exceeds the roofline of the car. Also featured is the "Thunder T" Ford Roadster. The car show is one day only from 9AM to 9PM with discount coupons available at all mid-valley NAPA stores. In addition, there will be a model car contest and people of any age that brings a model to the show gets half off the regular admission price. Regular admission to the show is only $6.00 with kids 10 and under free. Also included in the show is a raffle and silent auction. One of the prizes is a custom built transmission from Canby Transmission. The event is being promoted by drag racer Rich Bailey along with Jim Billings, who produces the popular "Night of Fire car shows every summer in Salem Oregon. All of the proceeds from the show will go to help Jeff Lauener who is the current crew chief for Bailey on the Capitol Auto Group Dragster. Lauener, who is slowly recovering from a recent stroke, is paralyzed and unable to work. Lauener himself is a former driver and most recently raced a front engine blown alcohol dragster. The show is still accepting car entries and Bailey is still looking for auction and raffle items.
