Pro Stock Motorcycle Qualifying Notes, Session #3
By Darryl Jackman

POMONA, Calif. - Notes from round 3 qualifying in Pro Stock Motorcycle at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, 43nd annual Automobile Club of Southern California NHRA Finals listing lane, rider name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Right Lane: Ryan Schnitz Runs 7.384/177.37, Now #20; Best prior run: 7.375/178.76, Was #20

10:57 a.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 69 degrees, relative humidity 40 percent, barometer 29.02 inches, adjusted altitude 1,998 feet, track temperature 89 degrees.

Schnitz and the rest of the riders get better conditions at the moment but that's no help here.

Left Lane: Freddie Camarena No Time, Now #21; Best prior run: 11.096/73.36, Was #21
Right Lane: Michael Phillips Runs 7.108/189.79, Now #17; Best prior run: 7.145/185.61, Was #18

Camarena barely got the bike off the line before the tire was spinning hard. Phillips improves, but not enough to crack the field.

Left Lane: Mike Berry Runs 7.965/123.50, Now #18; Best prior run: 7.129/185.51, Was #18
Right Lane: Junior Pippin Runs 7.066/186.33, Now #13; Best prior run: 7.102/183.92, Was #16

Pippin is a champion in other motorcycle sanctioning bodies but he's here on a Buell to take a shot at NHRA. He comes in on the bump and improves again. He's going to be doing this the whole season next year. Berry fails to improve.

Left Lane: Michael Ray Runs 7.211/180.79, Now #19; Best prior run: 7.170/181.23, Was #19
Right Lane: Shawn Gann Runs 7.097/188.02, Now #16; Best prior run: 7.101/187.68, Was #16

Gann is now on the bump and after this pass he remains there. Ray gets no help either.

Left Lane: Geno Scali Runs 7.067/190.08, Now #14; Best prior run: 7.096/189.39, Was #15
Right Lane: Steve Johnson Runs 7.022/190.14, Now #8; Best prior run: 7.049/188.89, Was #12

Johnson makes a big more in the right direction. He's now in the top half and Scali picks up one position.

Left Lane: Matt Guidera Runs 7.023/187.94, Now #10; Best prior run: 7.070/187.36, Was #15
Right Lane: Antron Brown Runs 7.006/188.15, Now #7; Best prior run: 7.035/187.68, Was #11

Brown is another rider that might be saying goodbye to the class this weekend. He's taken steps to upgrade to a Top Fuel license for 2008 but for now he goes top half. Guidera picks up a ton.

Left Lane: Chris Rivas No Time, Now #13; Best prior run: 7.035/185.18, Was #13
Right Lane: Hector Arana Runs 7.078/189.52, Now #12; Best prior run: 7.035/190.30, Was #12

Rivas is pushed away after trying to start the bike. Arana's bike sounded like it bogged a bit. Arana's bike actually sounded like it bogged a bit at the hit. Hector Arana's incremental times: 60ft-1.120 sec., 330ft-2.965, 660ft-4.527/156.06mph, 1,000ft-5.898.

Left Lane: Karen Stoffer Runs 7.006/191.38, Now #7; Best prior run: 7.015/190.24, Was #8
Right Lane: Craig Treble Runs 7.021/192.11, Now #9; Best prior run: 7.033/191.43, Was #11

Both riders pick up just a little and both move up a little bit.

Right Lane: Andrew Hines Runs 6.956/192.22, Now #1; Best prior run: 6.996/189.71, Was #5

Now that's more like it! Angelle Sampey's incremental times: 60ft-1.080 sec., 330ft-2.897, 660ft-4.439/158.09mph, 1,000ft-5.793
Andrew Hines' incremental times: 60ft-1.082 sec., 330ft-2.894, 660ft-4.440/157.59mph, 1,000ft-5.792

Left Lane: Peggy Llewellyn Runs 6.969/188.73, Now #5; Best prior run: 7.003/188.10, Was #6
Right Lane: Eddie Krawiec Runs 6.972/189.90, Now #6; Best prior run: 6.995/189.58, Was #5

This is sort of what we all expected this morning before the track heats up. Peggy Llewellyn's incremental times: 60ft-1.056 sec., 330ft-2.867, 660ft-4.417/157.01mph, 1,000ft-5.785
Eddie Krawiec's incremental times: 60ft-1.075 sec., 330ft-2.888, 660ft-4.437/157.76mph, 1,000ft-5.796.

Left Lane: Chip Ellis Runs 7.044/178.42, Now #3; Best prior run: 6.965/191.46, Was #3
