Pro Stock Motorcycle Qualifying Notes, Session #1

POMONA, Calif. - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Pro Stock Motorcycle at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, 43nd annual Automobile Club of Southern California NHRA Finals listing lane, rider name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:
Right Lane: Junior Pippen Runs 7.153/183.87, Now #1

1:30 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 67 degrees, relative humidity 40 percent, barometer 28.95 inches, adjusted altitude 1,887 feet, track temperature 102 degrees.

The first of the Pro vehicles are on the pad. Pippen gets the honor of the first hit and cards a nice straight 7.15.00000000000000000


Left Lane: Freddie Camarena Runs 11.096/73.36, Now #3
Right Lane: Ryan Schnitz Runs 7.423/176.65, Now #2

Camarena sits up before half track and Schnitz is slow on the top end as well.

Left Lane: Michael Ray Runs 7.170/181.23, Now #3
Right Lane: Shawn Gann Runs 7.158/185.13, Now #2

Dennis remains #1 but Gann was close.

Left Lane: Mike Berry Runs 7.129/185.51, Now #1
Right Lane: Michael Phillips Runs 7.202/185.15, Now #5

Berry goes to the top on the Suzuki.

Left Lane: Geno Scali Runs 7.156/185.28, Now #4
Right Lane: Hector Arana Runs 7.052/187.91, Now #1

Arana is the new leader in the clubhouse. His 7.052 is about a tenth ahead of the rest of the field. Scali to #4.

Left Lane: Matt Guidera Runs 7.090/184.62, Now #3
Right Lane: Antron Brown Runs 7.088/184.40, Now #2

This pair is about as close as you can get. Brown goes to #2 and Guidera slots in right behind him.

Left Lane: Chris Rivas Runs 7.035/185.18, Now #1
Right Lane: Steve Johnson Runs 7.118/176.21, Now #5

Rivas moves Arana off the top spot and Johnson stays in the top half.

Left Lane: Karen Stoffer Runs 7.103/185.36, Now #6
Right Lane: Eddie Krawiec Runs 6.995/189.58, Now #1

Krawiec runs the first '6' of the weekend and that makes him #1 at the moment. That was the first ever six here at Pomona for the two wheel set.

Left Lane: Angelle Sampey Runs 6.973/188.94, Now #1
Right Lane: Craig Treble Runs 7.070/188.54, Now #5

Now we have the second bike to run in the sixes at this venerable old dive. Angelle takes over the qualifying lead and Treble is in the top half.

Left Lane: Peggy Llewellyn Runs 7.061/186.20, Now #5
Right Lane: Matt Smith Runs 9.141/78.84, Now #18

Llewellyn ties to keep her slim chances alive with a good qualifying number. Smith sat up early and is well outside the show. Phillips is on the bubble with his 7.202.

Left Lane: Chip Ellis Runs 7.010/188.46, Now #4
Right Lane: Andrew Hines Runs 6.996/189.71, Now #3

Hines and Ellis show almost all the other riders how it's done and only Sampey and Krawiec are ahead of them on the qualifying list. At the end of one it's Gann on the bump with his 7.158.
