ROCKINGHAM, N.C. - Notes from final, round 3 qualifying in Torco Top Fuel at the 2007 Knoll-Gas Nitro Jam Drag Racing Series, IHRA World Finals Presented by The U.S. Air Force featuring UTI CHampionship Sunday listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run: Left Lane: Kevin Jones Runs 7.253/117.43, Now #9; No Prior Run Right Lane: Bobby Lagana Jr. Runs 4.733/309.56, Now #5; Best prior run: 4.947/233.03, Was #8 9:47 p.m. Jones has had a rough weekend so far and his troubles continued here, the car rattling the tires. He tried pedaling it, lost traction again, and threw in the towel. Meanwhile, Lagana made a nice run, the header flames tall and steady all the way, moving him from the bump spot to a possible first-round matchup with the #1 qualifier. Left Lane: Scotty Cannon Runs 4.603/307.72, Now #1; Best prior run: 4.716/291.76, Was #4 Right Lane: Jeff O'Neill Runs 10.383/86.16, Now #7; Best prior run: 4.841/301.33, Was #7 O'Neill smoked the tires, then had problems getting the engine to shut down on the top end. Meanwhile, Cannon went right down the groove and took over the top spot on a pretty run. However, since both Bruce Litton and T.J. Zizzo are safely in the field, Cannon no longer has a chance of winning the championship since he trails by 88 points and can only make up 60. Left Lane: T.J. Zizzo Runs 6.939/121.85, Now #3; Best prior run: 4.622/321.42, Was #3 Right Lane: Luigi Novelli Runs 11.008/86.26, Now #6; Best prior run: 4.760/291.82, Was #6 Both launched, both shook the tires, Novelli gave it up, Zizzo tried one more time, with the same result. Left Lane: Terry McMillen Runs 5.156/188.15, Now #3; Best prior run: 4.617/314.83, Was #2 Right Lane: Bruce Litton Runs 4.610/311.27, Now #2; Best prior run: 4.688/313.66, Was #4 McMillen lost traction around half track and lifted. Litton made a nice run, but was not quick enough to take the "Last Man Standing" bonus away from Cannon. However, this run put him two places ahead of Zizzo in the final qualifying and Zizzo's lead is now just 19 points, one round of eliminations. If both make it through the first round, they will meet in the second round and the winner will be the champion. However, Litton needs to get past Novelli and Zizzo needs to get by Gallegos for that to happen.
