We start today's professional session with completely different conditions than yesterday's gloom. We have had clear skies and sun on the track since early this morning. John Bartunek is on the bump spot at 6.506. Martin didn't make a pass yesterday and misses the bump today. Karampelas gets a full
pull and gets the back end of the car out on the launch. Left Lane: Elijah Morton Runs 7.269/207.50, Now #25; Best prior run: 10.422/140.87, Was #27 Right Lane: Ron Miller Runs 12.813/102.97, Now #27; Best prior run: 10.022/87.40, Was #26 Both cars chatter the tires off the line. Miller gives it up early and Morton tries to get some numbers to tune to. Left Lane: Dean Goforth Runs 6.422/214.45, Now #5; Best prior run: 8.949/103.37, Was #26 Right Lane: Rocky Watford Runs 14.004/60.52, Now #23; Best prior run: 6.622/209.10, Was #22 Goforth finds the combination and moves well into the top half of the field for now. Watford has a good 60 foot number and gives it up. Left Lane: John Montecalvo Runs 10.207/101.08, Now #25; Best prior run: 6.914/145.09, Was #25 Right Lane: Tom Lee Runs 17.731/44.91, Now #21; Best prior run: 6.570/208.42, Was #21 Bert Jackson is on the bump spot at 6.494. Montecalvo chatters the tires hard and then the cars drives directly to the centerline. He has to lift to stay in his lane. Lee struggles in his lane and clicks it off right away. Left Lane: Sylvester Barnes Runs 6.605/209.88, Now #23; Best prior run: 6.701/208.52, Was #24 Right Lane: John Bartunek Runs 6.442/215.58, Now #11; Best prior run: 6.506/212.79, Was #17 Barnes must have anticipated a dive to the right and the car fooled him. This time the tires drove the car towards the guard rail. He horses the car past the middle of the lane and runs right down the center line to the lights.Bartunek makes a clean pass into the field without much drama. Right Lane: Bert Jackson Runs 6.468/215.79, Now #16; Best prior run: 6.494/212.23, Was #17 Jackson's car drives hard towards the centerline at the launch and he has to work hard to keep it in his lane all the way down the track. He improves just enough to move from #17 to #16 for now. Hmmm... 6.46 - sideways! Left Lane: Anthony Paone Runs 6.479/211.66, Now #17; Best prior run: 6.570/207.82, Was #22 Right Lane: Rickie Smith Runs 6.375/218.37, Now #3; Best prior run: 6.466/213.16, Was #15 Two cars run from start to finish for a change. Paone just misses the bump and Smith shows everyone how to do it with a clean pass and a great MPH into the current#3 spot. Left Lane: Chuck DeMory Runs 6.585/203.71, Now #19; Best prior run: 6.515/213.00, Was #19 Right Lane: Larry O'Brien Runs 14.016/70.21, Now #14; Best prior run: 6.457/213.06, Was #14 O'Briam gets waaaay loose and is almost full sideways before he gives it up. DeMory left well, but had smoke out from underneath the car just before mid-track. Left Lane: Adelbertus Kelkboom Runs 6.436/214.38, Now #12; Best prior run: 6.490/212.43, Was #18 Right Lane: Cary Goforth Runs 6.358/218.94, Now #2; Best prior run: 6.442/213.16, Was #13 Bert Jackson is on the bump spot at 6.468. Two great passes, with "The Other Goforth" missing the current top spot by 0.004 seconds. Kelkboom used a lot of his lane getting to the finish line and is still able to move into the field. Left Lane: Dan Sweeney Runs 6.454/213.54, Now #15; Best prior run: 6.465/213.87, Was #16 Right Lane: Steve Spiess Runs 12.596/81.19, Now #11; Best prior run: 6.434/212.19, Was #11 Spiess car is violent off the line and he has to lift. Sweeney snakes his way to the finish line and moves himself off the bump for now. Left Lane: Bob Bertsch Runs 6.393/217.53, Now #7; Best prior run: 6.439/213.91, Was #13 Right Lane: John Nobile Runs 6.351/217.39, Now #1; Best prior run: 6.425/214.08, Was #8 Larry O'Brien is on the bump spot at 6.457. Both of these two are already in the show and looking to improve.Nobile is the straighter of the two and that gets him the new top spot. Bertsch uses a lot more than the required 1320 feet getting to the lights and still moves into the current top half of the field. Left Lane: Frank Gugliotta Runs 6.359/218.44, Now #4; Best prior run: 6.431/213.13, Was #11 Right Lane: Jeff Dobbins Runs 6.370/219.19, Now #5; Best prior run: 6.406/217.00, Was #8 Two runs straighter than most and nice improvements for both cars. Gugliotta moves into the top half of the field. Left Lane: Rob Mansfield Runs 10.354/90.61, Now #11; Best prior run: 6.429/214.11, Was #11 Right Lane: Brian Gahm Runs 6.345/220.22, Now #1; Best prior run: 6.377/216.72, Was #8 Major shake and chatter for Mansfield and he has to lift.Gahm resets all of the "Best Numbers" to take over the top spot for now. Left Lane: Pete Berner Runs 6.317/219.36, Now #1; Best prior run: 6.372/213.98, Was #7 Right Lane: Robert Patrick Runs 15.473/61.24, Now #4; Best prior run: 6.354/213.91, Was #3 Just 14 points between the two competitors. Patrick had the advantage last night and picked up five valuable points in the "Last Man Standing" show. It's all over for Patrick at the hit, as the tires go square. Berner gets his revenge and thunders from start to finish to take over the top spot until this evening final session.
