ROCKINGHAM, N.C. - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Torco Nitro Funny Car at the 2007 Knoll-Gas Nitro Jam Drag Racing Series, Universal Technical Institute World Finals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run: Left Lane: Cory Lee Runs 4.931/305.22, Now #1 Right Lane: Todd Simpson Runs 10.172/88.88, Now #2 7:52 p.m. Simpson has a good leave and then shakes and click it off. Lee makes a "Full Pull" and then has a bunch of orange sparks out from underneath the car in the lights. Left Lane: John Lawson Runs 5.223/233.76, Now #3 Right Lane: Jeff Diehl Runs 5.082/301.07, Now #2 Just a brief delay to check out the left lane. Lawson quickly pulls away from a late Diehl. The header flame went down early in the left lane, as the car slowed. Diehl makes the full pull into the current #2 spot for now. Left Lane: Mitch King Runs 5.183/258.96, Now #4 Right Lane: Bob Gilbertson Runs 4.927/302.14, Now #1 Gilbertson takes over the "Last Man Standing" lead for now with a run right down Broadway with header flames over the roof all the way down the track. King was much later off the line and clicked it early, before the top end. Left Lane: Andy Kelley Runs 12.189/89.62, Now #8 Right Lane: Terry Haddock Runs 5.204/275.73, Now #5 Kelly is up in smoke right off the line and clicks it right away. Haddock makes a clean run to the 1000 foot and clicks it early. Left Lane: Jack Wyatt Runs 5.067/283.19, Now #3 Right Lane: Dale Creasy Jr. Runs 5.102/277.43, Now #5 Andy Kelley is on the bump spot at 12.189. Creasy is away first and they stay close together until near the lights. Both cars looked to have clicked the engines off early, almost together. 8:08 p.m. Bob Gilbertson is the number one qualifier and the "Last Man Standing" for
tonight at 4.927 and John Lawson is on the bump spot at 5.223.
