Alcohol Funny Car Qualifying Notes, Session #1
By David Gerard

ROCKINGHAM, N.C. - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Alcohol Funny Car at the 2007 Knoll-Gas Nitro Jam Drag Racing Series, Universal Technical Institute World Finals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:
Left Lane: Ronnie Midyette Runs 6.191/225.00, Now #2
Right Lane: Melinda Green-King Runs 5.943/232.47, Now #1

6:29 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 78 degrees, relative humidity 77 percent, barometer 29.29 inches, adjusted altitude 2,368 feet, track temperature 94 degrees.

The smoke from the burnouts is hanging in the air as both cars make clean and smooth passes. The Mustang was a little loose down low, but still has the power to card a high five second pass.

Right Lane: Bill Naves Runs 6.128/225.22, Now #2

Naves leaves hard and drives towards the centerline. He pulls it back into the center of the lane and still takes over the current #2 spot.

Left Lane: Rocky Hummel Runs 6.230/210.67, Now #5
Right Lane: Bunny Burkett Runs 6.129/232.83, Now #3

Hummel gets out of the groove in the left lane and works to stay towards the center of the lane. Burkett makes a clean pass into #3 spot.

Left Lane: Scott McNiece Runs 6.037/235.39, Now #3
Right Lane: Laurie Cannister Runs 5.883/237.21, Now #1

Nice clean pass for Cannister and she is the current "Last Person Standing". McNiece uses a lot of the left lane getting to the finish line, but has the power to stay near the top of the ladder for now.

Left Lane: Trevor Lebsack Runs 5.975/233.24, Now #3
Right Lane: Tony Bogolo Runs 6.074/221.42, Now #5

1999 Ford Mustangs a pair come to the line. Two more nice passes with Lebsack chasing down a slowing Bogolo.

Left Lane: Neal Parker Runs 5.865/237.21, Now #1
Right Lane: Tim Stevens Runs 6.633/159.55, Now #11

Ronnie Midyette is on the bump spot at 6.191. We are being treated to a great NC sunset with a low of red, blue, grey and black in the sky.

Our two low qualifiers were past of the Pro Outlaw races. Parker takes over the current top spot and is the "Last Man Standing" for now. Stevens trails Parker to after mid-track and then slows a bunch.

Left Lane: Terry McMillen Runs 6.145/231.60, Now #10
Right Lane: Larry Dobbs Runs 5.920/240.25, Now #3

Bill Naves is on the bump spot at 6.128.

Left Lane: Paul Noakes Runs 5.887/239.44, Now #3
Right Lane: Terry Munroe No Time, Now #16

Noakes gave up four races and is #4 in the points. Munroe breaks at the end of his burnout and is pushed back to the starting line.

Left Lane: Rob Atchison Runs 5.823/239.14, Now #1
Right Lane: Mark Thomas Runs 5.954/238.98, Now #7

Tony Bogolo is on the bump spot at 6.074. Atchison has low ET, Top Speed, and is your "Last Man Standing" for tonight. He ends up the day thirty two points behind the leader Thomas. Thomas couldn't match the Monte Carlos's power this time and just stays in the field.

6:52 p.m. Trevor Lebsack is on the bump spot at 5.975.
