Funny Car Time Trial Notes, Session #1
By Darryl Jackman

LAS VEGAS - Notes from round 1 time trials in Funny Car at the NHRA, Las Vegas Test listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:
Left Lane: Mike Neff Runs 9.959/81.95, Now #2

Neff shook hard and was forced to lift at about 200 feet.

Left Lane: Jack Beckman Runs 6.479/118.18, Now #2

Beckman's hit looked good until just before half track. The back of the car stepped out on him and he lifted instantly. Jack Beckman's incremental times: 60ft-0.937 sec., 330ft-2.404, 660ft-3.550/191.70mph, 1,000ft-4.866

Left Lane: Gary Scelzi Runs 5.947/166.83, Now #1

Scelzi started to drift towards the center and lifted.

Left Lane: Mike Neff Runs 6.190/151.87, Now #2

Neff gets the Mustang a bit further down range this time.

Left Lane: Gary Scelzi Runs 9.984/83.67, Now #1

Scelzi rattles the tires loose between the 60ft and 330 marker.

Left Lane: Ron Capps Runs 4.900/278.35, Now #1

Capps goes low for the day.

Left Lane: Jack Beckman Runs 6.711/136.44, Now #4

Beckman rattled hard and shut it off.

Left Lane: Phil Burkart Jr Runs 11.225/81.31, Now #5

It was strange to watch Burkart crawl into Force's office. He rattles the tires loose before 330. Phil Burkart Jr's incremental times: 60ft-0.937 sec., 330ft-2.892, 660ft-5.592/079.61mph, 1,000ft-8.516.

Left Lane: Mike Neff Runs 5.365/198.96, Now #2

That was a much better team for the Neff bunch. The car stayed stuck all the way to about 900ft before he clicked it. It might be that he's coming up to the full pass part of his licensing...not sure.

Left Lane: Gary Scelzi Runs 4.837/321.96, Now #1

4:47 p.m. Scelzi takes the ET down a notch. Good looking run on the top end as well.

Left Lane: Jack Beckman Runs 4.874/317.12, Now #2

Beckman raises his bar as well. Nice run by the MTS team.

Left Lane: Ron Capps Runs 4.824/316.97, Now #1

Capps goes to #1. Hard to describe the straight and perfect run.

Left Lane: Phil Burkart Jr Runs 6.036/154.76, Now #5

Burkart gets just a little bit further in Force's ride.

Left Lane: Mike Neff Runs 5.554/190.81, Now #4

Neff back for the last pass of the day. We're done!
