Top Fuel Qualifying Notes, Session #1

ENNIS, Texas - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Top Fuel at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, 22st annual O'Reilly NHRA Fall Nationals presented by Castrol Syntec listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:
Left Lane: Scott Palmer No Time, Now #2
Right Lane: Mike Strasburg Runs 15.022/85.03, Now #1

Weather conditions: air temperature 93 degrees, relative humidity 39 percent, barometer 29.30 inches, adjusted altitude 3,235 feet, track temperature 124 degrees.

Palmer had just got the car started when the NHRA officials told him to shut it off. Strasburg was up in smoke as soon as he hit the throttle.


Left Lane: Alan Bradshaw Runs 10.383/71.04, Now #2
Right Lane: Joe Hartley Runs 6.746/126.77, Now #1

Bradshaw with a lot of tire shake and the car shook the chutes out. He had already shut it off and was coasting. Hartley struck the tires around 330 feet and clicked it off.

Left Lane: Doug Foley Runs 5.564/166.64, Now #2
Right Lane: Morgan Lucas Runs 4.660/325.14, Now #1

Foley was on a nice pass until right before half track when he had a whisp of tire smoke. Lucas with a real nice pass to start the weekend...Morgan Lucas' incremental times: 60ft-0.857 sec., 330ft-2.211, 660ft-3.171/264.65mph, 1,000ft-3.973

Left Lane: Clay Millican Runs 4.758/318.02, Now #2
Right Lane: Doug Kalitta Runs 4.985/279.50, Now #3

Millican with a clean pass to go to the number three spot...Kalitta with a nice pass until right before the finish line when the engine went away.

Left Lane: Hillary Will Runs 4.630/323.27, Now #1
Right Lane: Cory McClenathan Runs 4.645/286.13, Now #2

This was a good side by side drag race as these two go to the number one and two spots. Hillary Will's incremental times: 60ft-0.868 sec., 330ft-2.214, 660ft-3.154/269.40mph, 1,000ft-3.945
Cory McClenathan's incremental times: 60ft-0.856 sec., 330ft-2.178, 660ft-3.126/267.27mph, 1,000ft-3.921

Left Lane: David Grubnic Runs 5.582/171.71, Now #8
Right Lane: Melanie Troxel Runs 4.589/326.48, Now #1

Grubnic's engine went away around half track and he clicked it off. Troxel with a great run to go to the top of the field. Melanie Troxel's incremental times: 60ft-0.861 sec., 330ft-2.201, 660ft-3.134/272.23mph, 1,000ft-3.916

Left Lane: Whit Bazemore Runs 4.662/319.52, Now #6
Right Lane: J.R. Todd Runs 4.604/321.96, Now #2

Todd with a real nice looking pass to go to the number two spot. J.R. Todd's incremental times: 60ft-0.855 sec., 330ft-2.193, 660ft-3.124/271.08mph, 1,000ft-3.916 Bazemore with a real nice pass to start the weekend.

Left Lane: Bob Vandergriff Runs 10.815/82.20, Now #14
Right Lane: Doug Herbert Runs 5.055/287.35, Now #9

Numbers five and six in the points and this is an important weekend to try and close the gap between themselves and the number four guy.

Vandergriff lost traction right off the starting line and he clicked it off. Herbert started to lose traction and pedaled it once around half track.

Left Lane: Brandon Bernstein Runs 4.639/324.05, Now #4
Right Lane: Larry Dixon Runs 6.503/132.02, Now #13

Dixon started to haze the tires around half track and clicked it off. Bernstein with nice pass, straight down the groove. Brandon Bernstein's incremental times: 60ft-0.869 sec., 330ft-2.218, 660ft-3.163/268.65mph, 1,000ft-3.955

Left Lane: Rod Fuller Runs 4.622/319.67, Now #4
Right Lane: Tony Schumacher Runs 4.608/322.19, Now #3

A couple nice passes to finish up the session. Rod Fuller's incremental times: 60ft-0.865 sec., 330ft-2.196, 660ft-3.136/269.29mph, 1,000ft-3.930
Tony Schumacher's incremental times: 60ft-0.859 sec., 330ft-2.180, 660ft-3.127/266.00mph, 1,000ft-3.924
