ENNIS, Texas - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Top Alcohol Funny Car at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, 22st annual O'Reilly NHRA Fall Nationals presented by Castrol Syntec listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:

Left Lane: Shayne Lawson Runs 8.469/100.14, Now #2
Right Lane: Ron Morrison Runs 6.154/236.05, Now #1

Lawson was real loose right off the starting line and clicked it off. Morrison pedaled it one time, before he drove it on through the 1320.

Left Lane: Paul Crifasi Runs 6.189/228.27, Now #2

Crifasi pedaled it one time around 200 feet.

---

Left Lane: Lee Callaway Runs 5.785/250.04, Now #1
Right Lane: Alexis De Joria Runs 7.778/126.44, Now #4

DeJoria is out of the groove and close to the wall before she lifted. Callaway with a career best pass in the Alcohol Funny car category.

Left Lane: Steve Burck Runs 5.872/248.02, Now #2
Right Lane: Nancy Matter Runs 6.124/246.75, Now #3

Burck launched hard and runs a career best pass to go to the number two position for now. Matter with a clean pass.

Left Lane: Keeter Ray Runs 5.857/248.66, Now #2
Right Lane: Sean O'Bannon Runs 12.405/76.22, Now #9

O'Bannon with problems right off the starting line and the engine goes silent. Ray was straight down the groove with a nice pass.

Left Lane: Mike Bell Runs 5.845/247.20, Now #2
Right Lane: John Patton Runs 6.067/192.14, Now #5

Patton was on a good pass until around 700 feet when he banged the blower and the pressure relief panel went fling high into the air. Bell with a nice pass to go to the number two spot.

Left Lane: Kebin Kinsley Runs 5.703/253.47, Now #2
Right Lane: Paul Anderson Runs 5.676/253.37, Now #1

Anderson with a real nice pass, his quickest this season and career best mph to go to the number one spot. Kinsley was skating around all the way down the track but still goes to number two spot.

Left Lane: Vern Moats Runs 5.777/250.18, Now #4
Right Lane: Jimmy Jones Runs 5.652/257.38, Now #1

Jones launched hard and keep it hooked up all the way down the 1320 for his fastest pass in his career. He will go to the number one spot and Moats with a nice clean pass to start the weekend.

Left Lane: Clint Thompson Runs 17.229/58.60, Now #17
Right Lane: Roger Bateman Runs 6.038/245.00, Now #9

Thompson with violent tire shake as soon as he let the clutch out. Bateman was rattling the tires and pedaled it one time just before half track.

Left Lane: Dennis Taylor Runs 5.877/208.97, Now #10
Right Lane: Bob Newberry Runs 5.645/256.70, Now #1

Newberry with a real nice pass, straight down the groove to go to the number one spot. Taylor was right there with him until his engine went away with a big cloud of engine smoke. The Safety Safari is rolling 11:12 a.m.

Left Lane: Mick Snyder Runs 5.761/246.75, Now #6
Right Lane: Cy Chesterman Runs 5.749/254.57, Now #5

11:22 a.m. We are back, and these two were side by side all the way down the track.

Left Lane: Von Smith Runs 8.421/103.32, Now #19
Right Lane: Steve Harker Runs 8.827/99.19, Now #21

Both of these cars rattle the tires and click off by 330 feet.

Left Lane: Sean Bellemeur Runs 14.796/65.05, Now #24
Right Lane: Jay Payne Runs 5.730/257.09, Now #5

Bellemeur with a lot tire shake right off the starting line and shut it off. Payne with good clean pass to start the weekend.
