Top Fuel Qualifying Notes, Session #2

MILLINGTON, Tenn. - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Top Fuel at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, 20th annual O'Reilly Mid-South Nationals presented by Pennzoil listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Morgan Lucas Runs 4.590/323.66, Now #2; Best prior run: 7.389/103.99, Was #13
Right Lane: Doug Foley Runs 4.925/213.16, Now #12; Best prior run: 10.764/85.83, Was #16

Weather conditions: air temperature 86 degrees, relative humidity 46 percent, barometer 29.70 inches, adjusted altitude 2,335 feet, track temperature 99 degrees.

Foley got real loose on the top end and clicked it off. Lucas launched hard and keep the candles lit all the way down the 1320 to go to the number two spot. Morgan Lucas' incremental times: 60ft-0.851 sec., 330ft-2.182, 660ft-3.116/270.05mph, 1,000ft-3.907


Left Lane: Bob Vandergriff Runs 4.710/308.07, Now #13; Best prior run: 5.447/171.71, Was #14
Right Lane: Larry Dixon Runs 4.568/318.77, Now #1; Best prior run: 10.169/90.63, Was #16

Vandergriff made a quick move toward the centerline, but reeled it in to move up the ladder one spot. Dixon with a great pass, straight down Kenny Bernstein Boulevard to go to the number one spot. Larry Dixon's incremental times: 60ft-0.839 sec., 330ft-2.161, 660ft-3.087/271.90mph, 1,000ft-3.876

Left Lane: Doug Herbert Runs 4.569/313.44, Now #2; Best prior run: 5.282/209.85, Was #15
Right Lane: Whit Bazemore Runs 4.608/320.13, Now #7; Best prior run: 10.153/69.84, Was #16

Herbert made a quick move toward the centerline and has he reeled it in the car got real loose. He did a great job driving the car and goes to the number two spot. Doug Herbert's incremental times: 60ft-0.836 sec., 330ft-2.156, 660ft-3.083/271.68mph, 1,000ft-3.872 Bazemore gets off the bubble and into the top half of the show. Whit Bazemore's incremental times: 60ft-0.854 sec., 330ft-2.177, 660ft-3.116/266.95mph, 1,000ft-3.917

Left Lane: Melanie Troxel Runs 4.592/323.89, Now #5; Best prior run: 4.680/317.34, Was #13
Right Lane: Hillary Will Runs 4.983/214.83, Now #14; Best prior run: 4.694/318.24, Was #14

Troxel launched hard and had the Goodyears stuck all the way down the the 1320 to move into the top half of the show. Melanie Troxel's incremental times: 60ft-0.853 sec., 330ft-2.186, 660ft-3.126/271.19mph, 1,000ft-3.912 Will's header flames were out early as she coasted through the 1320.

Left Lane: Doug Kalitta Runs 4.608/322.42, Now #8; Best prior run: 4.670/319.98, Was #12
Right Lane: Clay Millican Runs 4.612/326.16, Now #10; Best prior run: 4.671/321.42, Was #13

This was a good side-by-side drag race with Kalitta tying Bazemore but getting the edge because he ran faster. That will move him into the top half of the show. Millican with a good clean pass here for his home town fans.

Left Lane: Rod Fuller Runs 4.608/317.34, Now #10; Best prior run: 4.668/319.75, Was #13
Right Lane: David Grubnic Runs 4.788/239.14, Now #12; Best prior run: 4.624/318.17, Was #11

For the first time since Topeka Fuller is not into the point lead. Grubnic clicked it off way early or may have lost a blower belt, not sure. Fuller was on a good pass, but it appeared he clicked it early, too. Rod Fuller's incremental times: 60ft-0.867 sec., 330ft-2.192, 660ft-3.131/268.76mph, 1,000ft-3.921

Left Lane: Cory McClenathan Runs 4.585/321.42, Now #4; Best prior run: 4.660/286.32, Was #13
Right Lane: J.R. Todd Runs 4.632/284.99, Now #7; Best prior run: 4.595/312.06, Was #6

Cory Mac with a great looking pass to move into the number four spot. Cory McClenathan's incremental times: 60ft-0.844 sec., 330ft-2.148, 660ft-3.093/264.70mph, 1,000ft-3.895 Todd was out ahead of McClenathan until his engine started eating itself up spitting parts out of the headers.

Left Lane: Tony Schumacher Runs 4.565/325.45, Now #1; Best prior run: 4.598/319.75, Was #8
Right Lane: Brandon Bernstein Runs 4.573/327.35, Now #4; Best prior run: 4.574/319.52, Was #3

This was great drag race to end the first day of the 20th annual O'Reilly Mid-South Nationals. Schumacher launched hard and keep the Goodyears hooked up and hitting on all eight to go to the number one spot. Tony Schumacher's incremental times: 60ft-0.857 sec., 330ft-2.165, 660ft-3.093/270.32mph, 1,000ft-3.886 Bernstein improves, but gets bumped back one spot to finish the day in the number four spot. Brandon Bernstein's incremental times: 60ft-0.850 sec., 330ft-2.165, 660ft-3.104/267.91mph, 1,000ft-3.893
