Top Fuel Qualifying Notes, Session #1

MILLINGTON, Tenn. - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Top Fuel at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, 20th annual O'Reilly Mid-South Nationals presented by Pennzoil listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:
Right Lane: Luigi Novelli Runs 11.294/98.31, Now #1

Weather conditions: air temperature 85 degrees, relative humidity 47 percent, barometer 29.68 inches, adjusted altitude 2,614 feet, track temperature 108 degrees.

Novelli is up in smoke as soon as he hits the throttle, and shuts it off.


Left Lane: Doug Foley Runs 10.764/85.83, Now #2
Right Lane: Morgan Lucas Runs 7.389/103.99, Now #1

foley rattles the tires right off the starting line and Lucas makes it to about 150 feet before he smokes the tires and clicks it off.

Left Lane: Clay Millican Runs 4.671/321.42, Now #2
Right Lane: Doug Kalitta Runs 4.670/319.98, Now #1

The back side of the tower here has a real nice banner that reads "Welcome Home Clay".

This was a good side-by-side drag race with Kalitta with the quickest E.T. and Millican with the fastest pass.

Clay Millican's incremental times: 60ft-0.875 sec., 330ft-2.236, 660ft-3.182/268.17mph, 1,000ft-3.978
Doug Kalitta's incremental times: 60ft-0.868 sec., 330ft-2.225, 660ft-3.178/265.59mph, 1,000ft-3.977

Left Lane: Hillary Will Runs 4.694/318.24, Now #4
Right Lane: Cory McClenathan Runs 4.660/286.32, Now #1

Cory Mac with real nice pass until just before the finish line when the engine went silent, but he still goes to the number one spot. Will with a good pass to start the weekend. Cory McClenathan's incremental times: 60ft-0.855 sec., 330ft-2.176, 660ft-3.131/263.51mph, 1,000ft-3.934

Left Lane: David Grubnic Runs 4.624/318.17, Now #1
Right Lane: Melanie Troxel Runs 4.680/317.34, Now #5

Grubnic with a real nice looking pass to go to the number one spot. David Grubnic's incremental times: 60ft-0.856 sec., 330ft-2.189, 660ft-3.134/267.96mph, 1,000ft-3.930 Troxel with a good pass to start the weekend.

Left Lane: Whit Bazemore Runs 10.153/69.84, Now #9
Right Lane: Doug Herbert Runs 5.282/209.85, Now #7

Bazemore rattles the tires right off the starting line and then goes up in smoke before he clicks it off. Herbert started to lose traction and pedaled it a couple times, but couldn't get the Goodyears to stick before he clicked it off.

Left Lane: J.R. Todd Runs 4.595/312.06, Now #1
Right Lane: Bob Vandergriff Runs 5.447/171.71, Now #9

Todd launched hard and keep the Goodyears stuck and hitting on all eight to go to the number one spot. This is nice rebound from not qualifying in Indy. J.R. Todd's incremental times: 60ft-0.849 sec., 330ft-2.179, 660ft-3.107/272.28mph, 1,000ft-3.896 Vandergriff lost traction and clicked it off.

Left Lane: Brandon Bernstein Runs 4.574/319.52, Now #1
Right Lane: Rod Fuller Runs 4.668/319.75, Now #5

Bernstein debuts the Countdown to the Championship paint scheme here and he goes to the number one spot. Brandon Bernstein's incremental times: 60ft-0.851 sec., 330ft-2.160, 660ft-3.092/271.57mph, 1,000ft-3.881 Fuller with a good clean pass to start the weekend.

Left Lane: Larry Dixon Runs 10.169/90.63, Now #15
Right Lane: Tony Schumacher Runs 4.598/319.75, Now #3

Dixon is up in smoke right off the starting line and clicked it off. Schumacher with a real nice pass. Tony Schumacher's incremental times: 60ft-0.856 sec., 330ft-2.180, 660ft-3.114/268.38mph, 1,000ft-3.907
