Pro Stock Motorcycle Qualifying Notes, Session #1
By Dave Rowe

MILLINGTON, Tenn. - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Pro Stock Motorcycle at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, 20th annual O'Reilly Mid-South Nationals presented by Pennzoil listing lane, rider name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:
Right Lane: Michael Ray Runs 14.716/47.54, Now #1

3:39 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 87 degrees, relative humidity 59 percent, barometer 29.68 inches, adjusted altitude 2,395 feet, track temperature 117 degrees.

Ray hits the throttle, gets about 300 feet out and shuts down, not sure why.

Left Lane: Jim Randolph Runs 7.462/183.34, Now #2
Right Lane: Barry Henson Runs 7.346/179.68, Now #1

A couple of full pulls but neither will probably qualify.

Left Lane: Joe DeSantis Runs 7.378/186.15, Now #3
Right Lane: Shawn Gann Runs 7.229/185.26, Now #1

Gann goes right down the groove with the quickest pass of the session so far. We probably won't be seeing any great passes with the heat here in Memphis, but it is a little cooler than last year.

Left Lane: Mike Berry Runs 7.175/181.91, Now #1
Right Lane: Michael Phillips Runs 7.253/183.39, Now #3

Berry makes the first pass in the teens and takes the early pole.

Left Lane: Geno Scali Runs 7.137/187.76, Now #1
Right Lane: Hector Arana Runs 7.221/181.57, Now #3

Left Lane: Matt Guidera Runs 7.184/181.72, Now #4
Right Lane: Antron Brown Runs 7.150/183.02, Now #2

Not much to say here, both bikes right down the groove.

Left Lane: Steve Johnson Runs 7.131/179.83, Now #2
Right Lane: Chris Rivas Runs 7.118/184.50, Now #1

Johnson makes a decent pass but peices of the body come off as he goes through the lights then the bike drifts to the right. Word from the top end, he may have blown a tire. Rivas was ahead as they went through the lights, Johnson falls in behind him.

Left Lane: Peggy Llewellyn Runs 7.096/183.47, Now #1
Right Lane: Eddie Krawiec Runs 7.161/185.43, Now #6

Krawiec wiggled around a little early in the run but he stayed on the throttle and made a decent pass. Llewellyn is the first bike in the '0s and she takes the pole for now.

Left Lane: Karen Stoffer Runs 7.243/186.67, Now #12
Right Lane: Angelle Sampey Runs 7.129/185.79, Now #3

Stoffer's bike didn't make much of a move out of the gate, a 1.145 short time, but she makes up a little on the back end and gets in the show for now.

Left Lane: Andrew Hines Runs 7.088/186.20, Now #2
Right Lane: Chip Ellis Runs 7.065/186.28, Now #1

Ellis makes an impressive run for the conditions and takes the pole. Hines had a better short time but loses a little to Ellis on the top end.

Left Lane: Craig Treble Runs 7.125/187.65, Now #6
Right Lane: Matt Smith Runs 7.065/186.20, Now #2

Smith makes a good run for the heat and gets in the 2nd spot. Treble gets in the top half of the field.
