Pro Stock Qualifying Notes, Final Session
By David Gerard

POMONA, Calif. - Notes from final, round 4 qualifying in Pro Stock at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, 47th annual CARQUEST Auto Parts Winternationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Dwayne Rice Runs 6.736/204.45, Now #22; Best prior run: 6.727/205.69, Was #22

3:26 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 76 degrees, relative humidity 27 percent, barometer 29.02 inches, adjusted altitude 2,287 feet, track temperature 87 degrees. This will be a tough round to improve on your qualifying position

Justin Humphreys is on the bump spot at 6.696. Strong leave and a straight pass for Rice, but he won't qualify at his first NHRA Pro Stock event.

Left Lane: Larry Morgan Runs 6.730/204.82, Now #21; Best prior run: 6.723/206.04, Was #21
Right Lane: Ben Watson Runs 6.759/204.66, Now #23; Best prior run: 6.733/205.38, Was #23

Consistent passes a pair, but no improvements.

Left Lane: Erica Enders Runs 6.693/206.13, Now #16; Best prior run: 6.707/206.61, Was #20
Right Lane: Ron Krisher Runs 12.973/67.06, Now #18; Best prior run: 6.702/205.63, Was #17

Enders has only been able to get to the finish line once this weekend. Krisher clicks it off early , while Enders makes a clean pass into the new bump spot. This will be a nail biter for Enders, as there are still a couple of cars with the potential to bump her out.

Left Lane: Richie Stevens Runs 6.683/206.83, Now #16; Best prior run: 6.705/206.54, Was #20
Right Lane: V. Gaines Runs 6.691/207.40, Now #15; Best prior run: 6.677/207.34, Was #15

Well, that didn't take long. Stevens finds the combination and bumps into the field. No improvement for Gaines.

Left Lane: Tony Rizzo Runs 6.739/205.72, Now #20; Best prior run: 6.703/206.57, Was #20
Right Lane: Warren Johnson Runs 6.684/207.08, Now #14; Best prior run: 6.676/207.56, Was #14

There is a LSX on the front of Johnson's GTO [X = Ten]. Warren has designed a very high performance small block drag race crate motor, that is now being offered by GM

No joy for either team on this attempt.

Left Lane: Justin Humphreys Runs 6.761/205.60, Now #18; Best prior run: 6.696/206.86, Was #18
Right Lane: Max Naylor No Time, Now #13; Best prior run: 6.675/207.37, Was #13

Humphreys gives up a lot of ET driving towards the centerline near the 330 lights and will not bump back into the field. Naylor drops the hammer, the car shutters, and goes silent.

Left Lane: Jim Yates Runs 6.686/206.29, Now #11; Best prior run: 6.671/207.43, Was #11
Right Lane: Roger Brogdon Runs 6.697/207.15, Now #12; Best prior run: 6.672/197.13, Was #12

Brogdon is assured of a starting spot tomorrow in his first weekend of Pro Stock racing. Another pair of good runs, but no improvements.

Left Lane: Tom Martino No Time, Now #9; Best prior run: 6.669/207.91, Was #9
Right Lane: Greg Stanfield Runs 6.678/207.34, Now #10; Best prior run: 6.669/207.75, Was #10

Martino breaks after the burnout and is pushed away. A good pass for Stanfield and he will stay #10.

Left Lane: Kurt Johnson Runs 6.687/207.24, Now #7; Best prior run: 6.666/207.82, Was #7
Right Lane: Mike Edwards Runs 6.689/207.08, Now #8; Best prior run: 6.667/207.75, Was #8

There is a pattern here. Clean passes, but not enough power to improve.

Left Lane: Kenny Koretsky Runs 6.686/206.64, Now #5; Best prior run: 6.659/207.82, Was #5
Right Lane: Jeg Coughlin Runs 6.705/207.34, Now #6; Best prior run: 6.661/207.98, Was #6

Jeg is out of grove early and pulls it back to the center of the lane down track. Koretsky will stay #5 with another clean pass.

Left Lane: Dave Connolly Runs 6.685/206.80, Now #4; Best prior run: 6.656/207.94, Was #4
Right Lane: Allen Johnson Runs 11.073/81.91, Now #2; Best prior run: 6.640/207.85, Was #2

Big wiggle for Johnson at the hit and he clicks it way early. Connolly runs clean to the lights.

Left Lane: Jason Line Runs 6.670/207.98, Now #3; Best prior run: 6.641/208.46, Was #3
Right Lane: Greg Anderson Runs 6.646/208.39, Now #1; Best prior run: 6.634/209.04, Was #1

Last pair and Jason and Greg will end up on opposite sides of the ladder tomorrow. Lane has some shake and spin off the line and still runs almost 208 MPH. Anderson makes his second quickest pass of the weekend and keeps the top spot. Richie Stevens is on the bump spot at 6.683.
