Pro Stock Qualifying Notes, Session #3
By David Gerard

POMONA, Calif. - Notes from round 3 qualifying in Pro Stock at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, 47th annual CARQUEST Auto Parts Winternationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Right Lane: Erica Enders No Time, Now #18; Best prior run: 6.707/206.61, Was #18

12:02 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 74 degrees, relative humidity 30 percent, barometer 29.11 inches, adjusted altitude 2,146 feet, track temperature 87 degrees. It's warmer today and the corrected altitude indicates a tough time for the Pro Stockers this session. The run order for round 3 is the reverse of the round two actual qualifying times

A little drama in the Ender's camp, as the engine went bang when they tried to start it. They got it restarted, but after doing the burnout, she shut it off and the team pushed the Racegirl Stratus away.

Left Lane: Greg Anderson Runs 6.634/209.04, Now #1; Best prior run: 6.647/208.33, Was #3
Right Lane: Richie Stevens Runs 6.705/206.54, Now #18; Best prior run: 14.735/59.58, Was #23

Both cars were way loose at the hit in Round 2 qualifying. A little spin for Anderson in the prefered left lane, but no problem. Say Hello to your new number 1 qualifier. Ties the track record too! Stevens finally gets down the track in this session, but misses the field. He'll get one more try this afternoon, but the weather may be worse.

Left Lane: Ron Krisher Runs 6.702/205.63, Now #17; Best prior run: 6.707/206.54, Was #20
Right Lane: Dwayne Rice Runs 6.756/205.66, Now #22; Best prior run: 6.727/205.69, Was #22

Krisher's car moved around at the launch and it likely cost him a qualifying spot. Rice slows from earlier.

Left Lane: Ben Watson Runs 6.780/204.01, Now #23; Best prior run: 6.733/205.38, Was #23
Right Lane: Larry Morgan Runs 6.730/205.69, Now #21; Best prior run: 6.723/206.04, Was #21

Morgan improves slightly, but no where near enough. Watson is slow off the like and will not get in either. Justin Humphreys is on the bump spot at 6.696.

Left Lane: V. Gaines Runs 6.677/207.34, Now #15; Best prior run: 6.690/207.24, Was #15
Right Lane: Tony Rizzo Runs 6.740/205.72, Now #18; Best prior run: 6.703/206.57, Was #18

Gaines makes a clean pass to improve a little. He'll stay #15 for now. Rizzo slows from his prior best.

Left Lane: Roger Brogdon Runs 6.674/207.50, Now #12; Best prior run: 6.672/197.13, Was #12
Right Lane: Justin Humphreys Runs 14.410/60.21, Now #16; Best prior run: 6.696/206.86, Was #16

Humphreys gets way loose off the line and clicks it. Brogdon looks like he has been doing this for years with another great pass.

Left Lane: Warren Johnson Runs 6.685/206.76, Now #14; Best prior run: 6.676/207.56, Was #14
Right Lane: Kurt Johnson Runs 6.690/207.50, Now #7; Best prior run: 6.666/207.82, Was #7

Father and son come to the line together to qualify. Dad gets the minor advantage in ET, but neither car can improve.

Left Lane: Max Naylor Runs 6.682/206.20, Now #13; Best prior run: 6.675/207.37, Was #13
Right Lane: Jim Yates Runs 6.680/207.94, Now #11; Best prior run: 6.671/207.43, Was #11

The expected rain doesn't seem to an issue today and the warmer weather is not helping the normally aspirated cars. Same deal here, as neither car improves.

Left Lane: Greg Stanfield Runs 6.705/206.86, Now #10; Best prior run: 6.669/207.75, Was #10
Right Lane: Tom Martino Runs 6.693/207.37, Now #9; Best prior run: 6.669/207.91, Was #9

Consistent runs, but no improvements.

Left Lane: Mike Edwards Runs 6.677/206.80, Now #8; Best prior run: 6.667/207.75, Was #8
Right Lane: Kenny Koretsky Runs 6.705/207.11, Now #5; Best prior run: 6.659/207.82, Was #5

Edwards makes a nice pass to improve on his ET, but will stay #8 for now. Koretsky slows in the difficult right lane.

Left Lane: Jeg Coughlin Runs 6.661/207.98, Now #6; Best prior run: 6.664/208.46, Was #6
Right Lane: Dave Connolly Runs 6.680/207.50, Now #4; Best prior run: 6.656/207.94, Was #4

It's tough out there! Coughlin runs the second quickest time of the session and still stays #6.

Left Lane: Allen Johnson Runs 6.678/207.08, Now #2; Best prior run: 6.640/207.85, Was #2
Right Lane: Jason Line Runs 6.664/208.20, Now #3; Best prior run: 6.641/208.46, Was #3

Last pair for the session! Two more nice passes, but not enough air to improve.

12:25 p.m. Greg Anderson on top at 6.634 and Justin Humphreys on the bump spot at 6.696.
