42nd annual Auto Club of Southern California NHRA Finals Special Awards

POMONA, Calif. -- Special awards from the 42nd annual Auto Club of Southern California NHRA Finals.

Budweiser Shootout award ($4,000 to the No. 1 qualifier in Top Fuel) - Doug Kalitta, Ann Arbor, Mich., Mac Tools dragster, 4.452 seconds, 328.22 mph.

Skoal Showdown award ($4,000 to the No. 1 qualifier in Funny Car) - Jack Beckman, North Hills, Calif., Matco Tools Dodge Charger, 4.671 seconds, 326.32 mph.

NHRA King Demon Crown award ($3,000 to the No. 1 qualifier in Pro Stock) - Jason Line, Terrell, N.C., Summit Racing Pontiac GTO, 6.663 seconds, 207.59 mph.

Ringers Gloves Pro Bike Battle award ($1,000 to the No. 1 qualifier in Pro Stock Motorcycle) - Andrew Hines, Indianapolis, Screamin' Eagle Harley-Davidson, 7.020 seconds, 191.00 mph.

Motel 6 "Who Got the Light" award ($1,000 to the individual Top Fuel, Funny Car, or Pro Stock driver who earns an elimination round win by the narrowest margin.) - John Force defeated Jack Beckman by a .0108-second margin of victory in the final round of Funny Car eliminations.

Strange Engineering "Perfectly Strange" performance award ($250 bonus to the first racer in Super Stock, Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas, and Super Street who wins an elimination round by running dead-on their dial-in or index) - Randy Kersey in Super Gas.

Brut "Essence of Racing" award ($1,000 to the Sportsman-level participant that best exemplifies the Brut spirit of racing) Super Gas racers Doug and Chris Bracey of Vallejo, Calif.

Hedman Hedders Best Engineered Vehicle ($1,000 to the best engineered vehicle) - Brighter Image/Performance Associates Pontiac Grand Am Super Gas entry. Driver: Gary Forkner, Temecula, Calif.

NHRA Best Appearing Crew - Bogart/AS&J Chevrolet Super Comp entry. Driver: Arthur Rebrovich, West Covina, Calif.

NHRA Best Appearing Car - Sherrill Racing Chevrolet Cavalier Super Stock entry. Driver: Terry Sherrill, Klamath Falls, Ore.

Full Throttle Pit Crew Championship ($3,000 each to Top Fuel and Funny Car's top crew, $1,500 to Pro Stock's top crew, and $750 to Pro Stock Motorcycle's top crew):
Top Fuel: Rod Fuller/Lee Beard Valvoline/David Powers Homes dragster crew.
Funny Car: Robert Hight/Jimmy Prock Auto Club of Southern California Ford Mustang crew.
Pro Stock: Jason Line/Rob Downing and Jeff Perley Summit Racing Pontiac GTO crew.
Pro Stock Motorcycle: Craig Treble/Harry Lartigue Team Tigue Suzuki crew.
