GLENDORA, Calif. --

NHRA officials released the 2007 NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series schedule today during a press conference at Auto Club Raceway at Pomona.

The 44-event series features at least five races in each of NHRA's seven divisions where drivers in eight categories compete for valuable points leading to divisional and national championships and a share of the $561,000 purse. The series also includes three sportsman-focused national events: the Jegs.com NHRA Cajun SPORTSnationals in Belle Rose, La.; the Jeg's NHRA Northern SPORTSnationals in Columbus, Ohio; and the NHRA Pacific SPORTSnationals in Fontana, Calif.

The 2007 season marks the sixth year of Lucas Oil's support of NHRA sportsman racers in a partnership that extends through 2009. The growing series will reach two new markets in 2007. The North Central division has added Summit Racing Equipment Motorsports Park in Norwalk, Ohio, to the calendar and the West Central division is slated to run at Cordova (Ill.) Dragway Park.

"With 44 races, the NHRA Lucas Oil Series divisional program remains one of the most competitive championship series in motorsports," said Graham Light, senior vice president of racing operations, NHRA. "Each NHRA Division presents a great challenge to determine the 2007 NHRA Lucas Oil Series champions. We look forward to an exciting season."

Headlined by the powerful Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car classes, the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series allows racers to compete for a championship close to home. Other categories that compete in the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series are Comp Eliminator, Super Stock, Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street. Some divisions also opt to run additional categories, including Top Sportsman, Top Comp, Top Dragster and Sportsman Motorcycle.

"We are very proud to be involved with the dedicated racers of the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series," said Forest Lucas, owner and CEO of Lucas Oil Products. "And we're eager to start another successful and memorable racing season."

Bonus programs available to competitors in the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series include the $100,000 Jeg's Allstars, the NHRA Perfectly Strange Performance Award, in which a total of $45,000 is up for grabs throughout, and the Sportsman Motorcycle Series presented by Harley Davidson. Individual divisions may also have additional bonus programs available to racers.
