Pro Stock Motorcycle Qualifying Notes, Session #3
By Darryl Jackman

POMONA, Calif. - Notes from round 3 qualifying in Pro Stock Motorcycle at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, 42nd annual Automobile Club of Southern California NHRA Finals listing lane, rider name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Right Lane: Chris Rivas Runs 7.171/182.87, Now #18; Best prior run: 7.236/180.77, Was #20

11:45 a.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 73 degrees, relative humidity 45 percent, barometer 29.12 inches, adjusted altitude 2,080 feet, track temperature 89 degrees.

Rivas runs his best of the weekend but still can't quite crack the field. Right now the bump is Scott Lewis at 7.149.

Left Lane: Mike Berry No Time, Now #13; Best prior run: 7.118/186.95, Was #13
Right Lane: Connie Cohen No Time, Now #21; Best prior run: 7.426/168.98, Was #21

Berry appeared to break a throttle cable when they started the bike and he's pushed away. Cohen had her hands full with the Buell and she actually crossed the center line and took out the 660 marker.

Left Lane: Marco Andreano Runs 7.224/181.64, Now #17; Best prior run: 7.162/181.98, Was #17
Right Lane: Tom Bradford Runs 7.303/179.88, Now #15; Best prior run: 7.142/188.62, Was #15

Both riders get no help. Bradford remains #15.

Left Lane: Karen Stoffer Runs 7.150/184.62, Now #14; Best prior run: 7.133/184.47, Was #14
Right Lane: Freddie Camarena Runs 7.272/184.35, Now #20; Best prior run: 7.235/181.45, Was #20

Stoffer doesn't improve, nor does Camarena.

Left Lane: GT Tonglet Runs 7.122/186.23, Now #10; Best prior run: 7.107/185.61, Was #10
Right Lane: Matt Smith Runs 7.131/180.91, Now #14; Best prior run: 7.194/181.42, Was #19

I'm surprised at the times so far in this session as the air is cool and the track is under complete cloud cover. Tonglet slows but Smith bumps Lewis.

Left Lane: Scott Lewis Runs 7.170/184.37, Now #17; Best prior run: 7.149/181.01, Was #17
Right Lane: Steve Johnson Runs 7.115/187.44, Now #12; Best prior run: 7.109/187.08, Was #12

Lewis tried to bump his way back in and oust Bradford. Not this time. He's down to his final shot this afternoon. Johnson runs well but slows from his best.

Left Lane: Antron Brown Runs 7.128/184.25, Now #9; Best prior run: 7.106/184.70, Was #9
Right Lane: Michael Phillips Runs 7.131/187.96, Now #7; Best prior run: 7.094/190.11, Was #7

With Hines #1 and Brown #9 Hines is actually more than two rounds behind at the moment. After the runs both riders remain exactly the same.

Left Lane: Geno Scali Runs 7.102/188.70, Now #9; Best prior run: 7.108/186.51, Was #11
Right Lane: Ryan Schnitz Runs 7.088/186.38, Now #7; Best prior run: 7.099/185.59, Was #8

That run by Scali puts Brown down a spot and puts Hines on the other side of the ladder. Not what Brown wants. Schnitz picks up a spot with the best run of the session.

Left Lane: Chip Ellis Runs 7.124/183.72, Now #5; Best prior run: 7.081/183.10, Was #5
Right Lane: Angelle Sampey Runs 7.135/184.93, Now #3; Best prior run: 7.066/188.07, Was #3

Much slower for both riders on this hit.

Left Lane: Shawn Gann No Time, Now #4; Best prior run: 7.081/188.28, Was #4
Right Lane: Matt Guidera Runs 7.081/185.51, Now #5; Best prior run: 7.087/185.59, Was #6

Gann is pushed back and there was no apparent reason. Guidera picks up a spot on speed.

Left Lane: Craig Treble Runs 7.071/189.90, Now #2; Best prior run: 7.046/190.35, Was #2
Right Lane: Andrew Hines Runs 7.352/151.31, Now #1; Best prior run: 7.020/191.00, Was #1

New low for the session comes from Treble. Hines has to stand on his earlier times as he sit up early on this one. That's the final bikes of the session.
