Beautiful conditions today, but no joy for Hitchman as he has no reverse and motors on
down the track. Whiteley waits for him to clear the track and makes a clean pass and slows a little
to stay #8 for now. Left Lane: Joey Severance Runs 5.564/253.33, Now #13; Best prior run: 5.428/262.90, Was #13 Right Lane: Mark Niver Runs 5.422/260.56, Now #6; Best prior run: 5.374/256.06, Was #6 Both cars run close to yesterdays times, but no improvements for either. Left Lane: Duane Shields Runs 5.432/260.06, Now #5; Best prior run: 5.347/265.95, Was #5 Right Lane: James Day No Time, Now #20; Best prior run: 5.677/249.63, Was #20 Day will have to wait until the final session, as the team pushes the car back to the return road. Shields is in and out of the throttle by 60 feet and still runs a low five forty. Fuel is neat! Left Lane: John Finke Runs 11.275/102.03, Now #2; Best prior run: 5.273/268.60, Was #2 Right Lane: Garrett Bateman Runs 5.527/248.66, Now #7; Best prior run: 5.395/256.65, Was #7 Finke is up in smoke at the hit and clicks right away. Bateman joins the "slower than yesterday" club. Left Lane: Johnny Ahten Runs 5.857/242.71, Now #17; Best prior run: 5.541/246.30, Was #17 Right Lane: Brandon Pierce Runs 5.458/254.71, Now #9; Best prior run: 5.412/247.66, Was #9 Ahten has holes out at the hit and slows. Pierce runs close to his prior time, but doesn't improve. Lots of raw fuel in left lane and lots of engine smoke in the right lane. Neither car will get in this session. Left Lane: Brian Smith Runs 13.957/76.61, Now #14; Best prior run: 5.429/255.73, Was #14 Right Lane: Sean O'Bannon Runs 5.401/266.00, Now #4; Best prior run: 5.342/268.06, Was #4 No joy for either team, but Smith has the worst of it with tire smoke at the hit. O'Bannon makes a clean pass and stays #4 for now. Left Lane: Bill Reichert Runs 13.661/60.31, Now #1; Best prior run: 5.265/274.00, Was #1 Right Lane: Ashley Force Runs 5.388/264.60, Now #7; Best prior run: 5.415/264.13, Was #11 Another "up in smoke" in the left lane, as Reichert clouds in the starting line at the hit. Force is the first car to actually improve this session and picks up four spots into the top half of the field. Left Lane: Steve Federlin Runs 5.383/264.29, Now #7; Best prior run: 5.415/264.60, Was #11 Right Lane: Dick Garlets Runs 8.064/112.59, Now #19; Best prior run: 5.620/244.78, Was #19 Federlin finds the left lane to his liking and bumps Force down a spot taking over the #7 spot on the ladder. Garlets shakes, spins, drops cylinders, and finally shuts off. Left Lane: Dave Hirata Runs 5.651/253.47, Now #21; Best prior run: 10.718/85.28, Was #23 Right Lane: Cody Perkins Runs 5.436/260.46, Now #15; Best prior run: 6.088/163.45, Was #22 Neither car is in the field and both are capable. Hirata's car is slow off the line and drops cylinders down track. Perkins finds a ton of power from yesterday and dumps into the tough field. Left Lane: Lee Callaway Runs 5.398/267.80, Now #10; Best prior run: 14.244/73.62, Was #25 Right Lane: Randy Eakins Runs 6.436/125.20, Now #25; No Prior Run Aaron Olivarez is on the bump spot at 5.456. Eakins didn't make a pass yesterday and Callaway would just a s soon forget about his attempt. Callaway gets it all together today and almost gets into the top half of the field. Eakins has a good leave, but drops cylinders right away. He pulls the chute early and coasts on out. Left Lane: Aaron Olivarez Runs 5.434/263.56, Now #16; Best prior run: 5.456/257.78, Was #17 Right Lane: Spencer Massey Runs 5.386/267.64, Now #3; Best prior run: 5.333/267.80, Was #3 Cody Perkins is on the bump spot at 5.436 and Olivarez tunes it up enough to put himself back in the field, but still on the bump. Massey shows consistency and stays #3 with a clean pass. Left Lane: Chris Demke Runs 5.444/263.41, Now #13; Best prior run: 5.417/264.39, Was #13 Right Lane: Dave Heitzman Runs 8.972/96.59, Now #26; Best prior run: 14.178/72.99, Was #26 Last pair for the session. Demke takes the long way down using a lot of race track getting to the finish line. It cost him, as he doesn't improve. Heitzman launches hard and then shuts it down early. 12:30 p.m. Bill Reichert stays number one at 5.265 and Aaron Olivarez is on
the bump spot at 5.434.
