BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Nostalgia Funny Car at the Goodguys, 8th Annual Fuel and Gas Finals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run: Left Lane: Bob Godfrey Runs 6.505/191.12, Now #1 Right Lane: John Powers Runs 8.643/100.54, Now #2 2:25 p.m. Godfrey was on and off the throttle in the beautiful Camaro. Powers had problems and was off the pedal very early in the run. Left Lane: Randy Walls No Time, Now #4 Right Lane: Dennis La Charite Runs 6.269/239.96, Now #1 Walls has a problem as the chute fell out of the pack as they tried to start the car. The crew can't repack it in time and La Charite gets the single. Something sounded strange in the black Vette at about 100 feet but they ran right on through what ever that problem was. Left Lane: Larry Pettit Runs 6.053/234.68, Now #1 Right Lane: Sean Dale Runs 11.821/75.04, Now #5 Dale got pretty loose in the mini Charger and finally had to call it off. Pettit was close to the guardrail then close to the center stripe as he herded the Arrow to finish line. Pettit moves LaCharite to #2. Left Lane: Lee Paul Jennings Jr Runs 6.032/233.46, Now #1 Right Lane: Jim Holtz Runs 10.103/89.35, Now #6 Holtz woke the fans up with a nice dry hop before he staged but you have to think that might have had something to do with him smoking the tires at the hit. Jennings is out to prove his performance at the Reunion last month was no fluke as he Pettit down a notch. Left Lane: Ed Schwartz No Time, Now #10 Right Lane: Nate Bugg Runs 21.433/41.01, Now #8 Schwartz Vega really, really looks like a funny car from thirty five years ago. Very pretty and very real. To bad the starting line crew found a fuel leak and had to shut him off. Bugg spun the tires right at the hit and coasted on out. Left Lane: Chris Krabill Runs 6.054/239.29, Now #4 Right Lane: Del Worsham Runs 5.934/247.75, Now #1 Krabill won the Reunion last month and he's up against the debut of the Worsham owned and tuned Blue Max recreation. After a dry hop from the Max the two left together and it was Worsham turning on the win light and getting a leg up on the Goodguys speed record. Oh, and that also made him #! on the chart. Left Lane: Mike Savage Runs 6.226/216.71, Now #6 Right Lane: Stephen Romanazzi Runs 6.128/223.71, Now #5 This pair just goes out and gets the job done. Savage currently sits #3 in the points and Romanazzi has really improved lately with his Vega. Left Lane: Ron Capps Runs 6.000/239.48, Now #0 Right Lane: Randy Walls Runs 6.406/219.08, Now #1 Walls is being allowed to come back after getting his chute release problems fixed. Capps just blew the whole deal away as Jeff Gaynor's Cuda left really hard. Not quite as quick as the Blue Max but the other big show driver is #2. Left Lane: Dan Horan Jr Runs 6.077/230.41, Now #6 Right Lane: Steve Nichols Runs 8.873/95.26, Now #13 Nichols left on Horan but his ride started into a bunch of monkey motion before 330 feet. he shut off but Horan got a full pull out of his first hit.
