Cozzali was the number one qualifier, McHugh qualified in the 35th position. McHugh had the quicker light and pulled away quickly. Cozzali closed the gap and was coming close to catching McHugh when he ran out of race track. Jerome McHugh's MOV: 0.0072 seconds (approximately 2 feet).
