REYNOLDS, Ga. - Notes from final, round 2 qualifying in Top Alcohol Funny Car at the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, Southeast Division, event at Silver Dollar Raceway listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:

Left Lane: Monty Todd Runs 11.124/76.42, Now #6; Best prior run: 8.065/114.98, Was #5
Right Lane: Steve Harker Runs 5.841/251.20, Now #1; Best prior run: 9.544/89.73, Was #7

6:42 p.m. Todd pulls the wheels off the line, sets them down, then the rear tires unload. Harker goes right down the groove and moves all the way to the top spot for now.

Left Lane: Jay Payne Runs 5.832/252.10, Now #1; Best prior run: 6.009/248.75, Was #4
Right Lane: John Sullivan Runs 11.250/73.62, Now #7; Best prior run: 8.705/98.77, Was #7

Sullivan's traction problems continue. He gets about 300 feet out, gets out of the groove, then backs off the throttle. Payne drifts to the right about 500 feet out but is able to steer the car back to the center of the race-track and take the top spot for now.

Left Lane: Mark Billington Runs 9.601/88.73, Now #4; Best prior run: 5.995/241.07, Was #4
Right Lane: Keeter Ray Runs 5.984/236.26, Now #3; Best prior run: 5.958/227.38, Was #3

Ray was on the pole after the first round of qualifying but has since dropped to the third spot. Billington has dropped two notches to fourth. Billington shakes the tires, makes a move toward the centerline, then has to abort the run. Ray went right down the groovebut slowed a little from his first pass.
