POMONA, Calif. - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Hot Rod at the NHRA Xplod Sport Compact Drag Racing Series, Sixth Annual Nitto Tire NHRA Sport Compact World Finals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:

Left Lane: Jason Ames Runs 9.390/158.56, Now #1
Right Lane: Mike Crawford Runs 14.530/55.94, Now #2

Nice pass for local racer Ames - Crawford had problems early.

Left Lane: Chuck Seitsinger Runs 9.777/107.21, Now #2
Right Lane: Kenny Tran Runs 11.968/124.94, Now #3

Tran bogged a little off the line, then had a ribbon of smoke come out the exhaust - the sound of a turbo not getting lubrication could be heard here in the press center, Tran coasted the rest of the way.

Chuck Seitsinger's incremental times: 60ft-1.431 sec., 330ft-3.865, 660ft-5.866/120.87mph, 1,000ft-7.805

Left Lane: Stephanie Eggum Runs 8.242/182.62, Now #1
Right Lane: Ricky Dela Cruz Runs 10.967/101.76, Now #4

Eggum trails Lummus by 70 points for the championship - She could really use 20 more national record points for her bid.

Dela Cruz got near the centerline and had to lift off the loud pedal, Eggum started trailing smoke at the top end, but the track is dry, so we continue.

Right Lane: Eric Del Rosario No Time, Now #8

The was a timing system malfuncition of some kind, Lummus got a green lights, but there were no times posted for either lane. 11:59 a.m.
