POMONA, Calif. - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Honda Tuning Magazine All Motor at the NHRA Xplod Sport Compact Drag Racing Series, Sixth Annual Nitto Tire NHRA Sport Compact World Finals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:

Left Lane: Leslie Durst-Armendariz Runs 9.522/141.92, Now #1
Right Lane: 'bisi Ezerioha Runs 9.878/136.81, Now #2

11:39 a.m. The current track record here at Pomona is 9.63 at 141.80 mph, held by last years winner Tony Shagday.

The records will likely fall sometime toda.y..

And they do with the first pair of cars! Wow. Leslie's 60-foot time was a 1.428, she was going 115.28 mph at the halfway point.

Left Lane: Eric Darby Runs 12.677/110.14, Now #4
Right Lane: Saul Salceda Runs 9.549/141.46, Now #2

Salceda drifted a little toward the right on this run, otherwise he may have claimed the top spot.

Left Lane: Jeremy Lookofsky Runs 9.754/141.77, Now #3
Right Lane: Scott Kelley Runs 9.998/134.55, Now #5

Kelley's team has been busy, they ran in Ohio last week, and word comes from the pit area the team has swapped motors and are running methanol this weekend...

And all the effort pays off as Scott runs into the nines for the first time in his Sport Compact all motor career. Lookofsky is looking to claim the 2006 championship this weekend.

Right Lane: Vince Tiaga Runs 11.418/96.10, Now #6

Thomas's Honda was skating around in the middle of the run, Tiaga lifted before the finish line, the reason not clear from this vantage point.

Right Lane: Jack Sacchette Runs 20.136/51.66, Now #9

It's the maiden voyage for Jack's brand new Honda - the car was finished just last night. Many may know Jack from years of dominance in VW racing circles, this is his new ride.

Jack struggled off the starting line, ran well thru two gears and lifted.
