NOBLE, Okla. - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Top Alcohol Dragster at the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, South Central Division, event at Thunder Valley Raceway Park listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:

Left Lane: Richard Putz Runs 5.490/258.39, Now #1
Right Lane: Karl Brounkowski Runs 5.638/256.26, Now #2

I'm told Steve Federlin is lending a hand in the Putz pits this weekend. Putz had some early tire shake. Brounkowski was moving around his lane in the middle section of the track.

Left Lane: Brandon Pierce Runs 5.371/257.28, Now #1
Right Lane: Garrett Bateman Runs 6.037/239.87, Now #4

Bateman started dropping cylinders at about 800 feet.

Left Lane: Edwin Schmeeckle Runs 5.587/252.95, Now #3
Right Lane: Darryl Hitchman Runs 6.003/227.38, Now #5

Schmeeckle shook the tires on the launch and he was close to the centerline at half track. Hitchman was dropping cylinders at the top end.

Left Lane: Scott Murray Runs 5.780/239.42, Now #6
Right Lane: Mike Austin Runs 5.579/257.21, Now #3

A good looking pass for both drivers until Murray started dropping cylinders just before the finish.

Left Lane: Randy Meyer Runs 5.489/249.44, Now #3
Right Lane: James Thompson Jr Runs 5.398/258.24, Now #2

There were a couple of unusual looking flashes of fire from the rear of Meyer's car around half track, but otherwise it was a good looking pass for both drivers.

Left Lane: Aaron Olivarez Runs 5.623/256.11, Now #8
Right Lane: Spencer Massey Runs 5.365/267.22, Now #1

Massey ran it straight down the groove with all of the candles lit. Olivarez may have had a cylinder go out just before the finish.
