1:57 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 87 degrees, relative humidity 44 percent, barometer 29.36 inches, adjusted altitude 3,200 feet.

This is the first pair in the Chicago Style Shootout. Eight of the quickest qualifier run and the quickest two winners come back later today for the Championship.

Both cars are away clean and run strong to the finish. Savage in the orange Speed Sport Baracudda has a better sixty foot time and ET, but Krabill is away first and gets the hole shoot win by six feet.

759 Gary Read 720 Lee Paul Jennings Jr
E1 0.094 6.399 199.91 ****WINNER**** 0.114 6.043 221.83
 Qualified: #7 6.375 180.43 #2 6.101 218.23
Read has the head start and has to watch Jennings drive on by. It's gets worse as the engine goes bye-bye in the lights and the chute is late. Once again, he is into the Kitty Litter without significant damage. Jennings has a clean pass without drama and improves on his qualifying ET to take the easy win.

771 Ed Schwartz 707 Jim Holtz
E1 ****WINNER**** 0.853 6.326 217.02 No Time
 Qualified: #9 6.655 212.86 #3 6.208 230.47
2:07 p.m. just a brief delay. Just as Holtz was going into final stage, the starter ran over and gave him the "cut throat" sign to shut off, as the engine was leaving a mess underneath the car. Schwartz is given the "single" sign makes a nice pass down Broadway.

 Car#-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed-----Car#-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT----ET---Speed
748 Bob Godfrey 7997 Stephen Romanazzi
E1 0.146 14.507 61.39 ****WINNER**** 0.155 10.593 75.47
 Qualified: #8 6.638 171.13 #1 5.987 232.79
Godfrey's great looking orange and yellow Camaro has his work cut out for him, but they overpower the track at the hit and smoke the tires. He gives it a pump or two and then gives it up. Romanazzi has his own problems and coasts on out for the win.

2:16 p.m. Jennings will met Krabilll for the shootout final.
