A FUEL Qualifying Notes, Final Session
By Dave Gerard

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Notes from final, round 2 qualifying in A FUEL at the California Hot Rod Reunion, 15th California Hotrod Reunion, presented by the Automobile Club of Southern California listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Bill Wayne Runs 6.365/218.55, Now #1; Best prior run: 6.536/216.50, Was #3

2:13 p.m. Randy Harris was supposed to be in the first pair. When the team went to start the injected fueler's engine, there was a big bang back through the injector. The energy broke the primer bottle and it flew several feet away with a lot of fire all over the ground. Luckily the crew was not noticeably injured and the car was pushed away. Wayne team restarted the engine and he made a nice clean pass without any drama into the current top spot.

Left Lane: Kin Bates Runs 6.319/223.43, Now #1; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Shawn Corbani No Time, Now #4; No Prior Run

Bates leaves hard and makes a strong pass. Corbani left before the green and will not get a time.

Left Lane: Ron Attebury Runs 8.299/158.84, Now #4; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Jerry Kumre Jr Runs 14.726/55.80, Now #5; No Prior Run

Attebury's car left well and then moved towards the guard rail about 300 feet out. He finally lifts and coasts on down. Kumre strikes the tires at the hit and stays with it way too long. The blower finally goes BANG and he slows too.

Left Lane: Nick Norton Runs 7.865/111.74, Now #7; Best prior run: 7.865/111.74, Was #8
Right Lane: Darrell Waters No Time, Now #11; Best prior run: 7.559/118.93, Was #7

Two good leaves and they ran together until almost mid-track, where Waters drifts over and tags the eight mile MPH cone. He finishes with a 7.559 ET, but it will be counted as a "No Time" for this run.

Left Lane: Claude Lavoie Runs 6.491/219.03, Now #3; Best prior run: 6.392/218.60, Was #3
Right Lane: Bill Genco Runs 7.287/167.28, Now #9; No Prior Run

2:38 p.m. ...and we are back after some dusting and cleaning at mid-track.Lavoie is the Goodguys record holder with a 6.22 ET and at 226 MPH. The little fueler just marches away from Genco. Genco improves a bunch,, but will be in the #9 spot for now.

Left Lane: Tom Taros Runs 7.892/196.24, Now #11; Best prior run: 8.100/198.28, Was #11
