Hemi Super Stock Challenge Round 1 Eliminations (Revised)
By Larry Sullivan

HEBRON, Ohio - Revised results of round 1 eliminations in MOPAR Hemi Super Stock Challenge at the NHRA, Second annual Jeg's Northern SPORTSnationals, corrected to add second pair:

 Car#-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed-----Car#-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT----ET---Speed
3651 Charlie Westcott Jr. 304 James Keyes
E1 0.055 13.410 55.81 ****WINNER**** 0.274 9.240 143.64
 Qualified: #2 8.834 -0.966 #9 9.062 -0.738
6:39 p.m. Westcott had a good light, but had problems before half track and slowed.

3410 Randy Warford 1954 Bob Wolkwitz
E1 ****WINNER**** 0.088 9.340 126.30 0.478 9.207 145.47
 Qualified: #7 9.053 -0.747 #14 9.225 -0.575
Warford won on a huge holeshot, but it was an expensive win. His car started slowing past half track and grenaded the engine in the lights. There is oil from 330 feet through the shutdown area.

205 John Gifford 3122 Joey Wilkes
E1 0.004 9.235 144.64 ****WINNER**** 0.061 8.908 149.70
 Qualified: #11 9.122 -0.678 #4 8.931 -0.869
7:06 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 85 degrees, relative humidity 56 percent, barometer 29.30 inches, adjusted altitude 2,750 feet, track temperature 100 degrees.

Wilkes benefitted from Warford's misfortune, his car developing a severe misfire when he pulled out from under the tower. With the lengthy cleanup on the top end, a gaggle of people gathered around Wilkes' engine compartment and performed major surgery to eliminate the misfire - it still sounds a bit rough, so they may have disabled one cylinder.

Probably had all eight, nice run by Wilkes to advance despite Gifford's psychic light. Wilkes faces Warford next round - if Warford is able to answer the staging call.

1979 John Baughman 4222 Fred Henson

Henson was late and played catch-up all the way down the track. Fred Henson's incremental margins (negative if behind): 60ft(-0.195), 330 ft(-0.119), 660ft(-0.069), 1,000ft(-0.019). MOV: 0.0246 seconds (approximately 5 feet). He races Keyes in the quarterfinals.

Pancake was late, but won easily and will race Teuton in the quarterfinals. Hensley gets the bye run.
