Pro Stock Motorcycle Qualifying Notes, Session #2
By Darryl Jackman

SONOMA, Calif. - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Pro Stock Motorcycle at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, 19th annual FRAM-Autolite NHRA Nationals listing lane, rider name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Scott Lewis Runs 7.288/179.54, Now #19; Best prior run: 7.464/175.96, Was #18
Right Lane: Matt Smith Runs 7.119/185.28, Now #13; No Prior Run

6:47 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 71 degrees, relative humidity 59 percent, barometer 30.05 inches, adjusted altitude 941 feet, track temperature 99 degrees.

Smith makes the show with his 7.119 but Lewis will need Saturday's sessions as he's way short.

Left Lane: Matt Guidera Runs 7.232/179.90, Now #17; Best prior run: 7.242/184.47, Was #17
Right Lane: Freddie Camarena Runs 7.400/178.66, Now #20; Best prior run: 7.496/154.74, Was #20

No help for either rider.

Left Lane: Chris Rivas Runs 7.216/180.38, Now #14; Best prior run: 7.144/187.47, Was #14
Right Lane: Joe DeSantis Runs 11.586/67.22, Now #18; Best prior run: 7.245/186.05, Was #18

Mike Berry is on the bubble to open the session and Brown of course is #1 with the six. DeSantis sits up early on a busted run. No help for Rivas and he remains #14.

Left Lane: Steve Johnson Runs 7.155/185.74, Now #12; Best prior run: 7.114/188.20, Was #12
Right Lane: Mike Berry Runs 7.236/170.73, Now #16; Best prior run: 7.220/185.84, Was #16

I'm a bit surprised here because the conditions seem to be pretty good. Neither rider improves in this pair as well.

Left Lane: Craig Treble Runs 7.095/188.70, Now #9; Best prior run: 7.079/189.26, Was #9
Right Lane: Michael Phillips Runs 7.207/181.06, Now #15; Best prior run: 7.204/189.39, Was #15

Treble is in the 7.0s but still slower than his first. Phillips just about duplicates.

Left Lane: Ryan Schnitz Runs 7.110/186.15, Now #8; Best prior run: 7.061/189.39, Was #8
Right Lane: GT Tonglet Runs 7.483/142.46, Now #11; Best prior run: 7.104/189.82, Was #11

Tonglet was off the power well before the finish. I couldn't see a problem but it must have been there. Schnitz loses a nickel.

Left Lane: Geno Scali Runs 7.099/188.65, Now #7; Best prior run: 7.044/190.57, Was #7
Right Lane: Karen Stoffer Runs 7.093/188.31, Now #10; Best prior run: 7.082/189.98, Was #10

No improvement again.

Left Lane: Tom Bradford Runs 7.095/186.98, Now #5; Best prior run: 7.038/191.13, Was #5
Right Lane: Angelle Sampey Runs 7.118/184.88, Now #4; Best prior run: 7.024/190.54, Was #4

There is a strong head wind and that appears to have an effect on the bikes.

Left Lane: Andrew Hines Runs 7.055/188.81, Now #2; Best prior run: 7.000/192.69, Was #2

Hines with a nice run.

Left Lane: Antron Brown Runs 7.038/188.25, Now #1; Best prior run: 6.983/191.51, Was #1
Right Lane: Chip Ellis Runs 7.097/187.50, Now #3; Best prior run: 7.013/189.84, Was #3

Brown remains #1 after two sessions with another good looking run under the conditions. Ellis loses almost a tenth from his best.
