Pro Stock Motorcycle Qualifying Notes, Session #1
By Darryl Jackman

SONOMA, Calif. - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Pro Stock Motorcycle at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, 19th annual FRAM-Autolite NHRA Nationals listing lane, rider name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:
Left Lane: Freddie Camarena Runs 7.496/154.74, Now #2
Right Lane: Scott Lewis Runs 7.464/175.96, Now #1

3:07 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 78 degrees, relative humidity 56 percent, barometer 30.09 inches, adjusted altitude 1,409 feet, track temperature 122 degrees.

Lewis was right up against the center stripe, and fighting the bike all the way down. Camarena was in the middle of the lane but needs some power.

Left Lane: Mike Berry Runs 7.220/185.84, Now #2
Right Lane: Chris Rivas Runs 7.144/187.47, Now #1

Rivas cards a nice pass on the Mohegan Sun Buell. Berry to the #2 spot.

Left Lane: Joe DeSantis Runs 7.245/186.05, Now #4
Right Lane: Steve Johnson Runs 7.114/188.20, Now #1

Johnson goes to the early lead and DeSantis is #4.

Left Lane: Shawn Gann Runs 7.042/191.65, Now #1
Right Lane: Craig Treble Runs 7.079/189.26, Now #2

A couple of 7.0s to liven up the class just a little. Is a six coming up here pretty soon?

Left Lane: Michael Phillips Runs 7.204/189.39, Now #6
Right Lane: Tom Bradford Runs 7.038/191.13, Now #1

Bradford gets closer to the six, but no cigar. Phillips trailed pretty badly in that pair.

Left Lane: GT Tonglet Runs 7.104/189.82, Now #5
Right Lane: Geno Scali Runs 7.044/190.57, Now #3

7.0s are cheap this session. So far we're had five and more bikes to come.

Left Lane: Matt Smith No Time, Now #14
Right Lane: Matt Guidera Runs 7.242/184.47, Now #10

Smith had problems after the burnout and wound up stepping off the bike and watching Guidera make his run. Guidera is only slightly happier s he appeared to fight his Buell all the way down.

Left Lane: Karen Stoffer Runs 7.082/189.98, Now #6
Right Lane: Ryan Schnitz Runs 7.061/189.39, Now #4

Another pair of 7.0s and the top half position is held by Johnson at 7.11.

Left Lane: Chip Ellis Runs 7.013/189.84, Now #2
Right Lane: Antron Brown Runs 6.983/191.51, Now #1

There it is! Brown becomes the latest member of the six second club and of course the #1 qualifier. Ellis was really close at 7.013.

Left Lane: Angelle Sampey Runs 7.024/190.54, Now #4
Right Lane: Andrew Hines Runs 7.000/192.69, Now #2

Sampey runs 7.024 and is only #4. Hines closed out the session as close as you can get at 7.000. Just as a point. The 6.983 isn't even the track record here at Infineon as that is held by Andrew Hines when he went 6.968 here last July.
