Earns Third Raceday Pole of 2006

MORRISON, Colo. -- Record

Jason Line
Jason Line drove the Summit Racing Pontiac GTO to his third raceday pole of 2006 today at the 27th annual Mile-High Nationals at Bandimere Speedway. With sweltering air and track conditions, and in a morning Pro Stock qualifying session where only two cars (Line and Stanfield) improved upon their Friday positioning, Line's GTO blistered both ends of the Bandimere Speedway track record with a 7.062 e.t. at 195.65 mph.

"I'll have to admit, it was one heck of a run," said Line. "I don't think anyone thought something like that was possible this morning, including myself - and I'm an eternal optimist. It was really a stout run and it was fun to be the guy driving the car.

"It felt really good. I got down to the end of the track and Dave Connolly was standing in front of my car shaking his head, and then he told me what I had run. I was as surprised as he was. I thought a good pass for that session would have been a 7.09, but not a 7.06."

For Line, it was his seventh career No. 1 qualifying award and his first ever at Bandimere Speedway. It was also the seventh time this season that the 36-year-old Minnesota native, and current North Carolina resident, has qualified his Summit Racing Pontiac third or better.

Coming into this weekend's event, Line was in second place behind Greg Anderson in the POWERade Pro Stock standings, but with his No. 1 qualifying effort, and Anderson finishing time trials in the No. 5 spot, Line nets a positive four qualifying points on his teammate and erases a two-point deficit heading into Sunday's eliminator.

"We actually expected to be running better than what we are," aid Line. "We had done some things with our Summit Racing Pontiac that we thought would pay off, and until the run this morning, it didn't look like it was. Now we need to get Greg's new GTO to run just as fast and then we'll really have something for the rest of the field on raceday."
