Top Fuel Qualifying Notes, Session #2
By Larry Sullivan

EDMONTON, Alb. - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Knoll Gas - Torco Racing Fuels Top Fuel at the 2006 eMax Drag Racing Series, CARS RV & Marine & Motorsports Rocky Mountain Nationals presented by TORCO Racing Fuels listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Ed Verenka No Time, Now #9; Best prior run: 25.286/49.23, Was #8
Right Lane: Mitch King Runs 5.403/237.17, Now #6; No Prior Run

5:43 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 77 degrees, relative humidity 33 percent, barometer 28.15 inches, adjusted altitude 3,477 feet, track temperature 109 degrees.

Verenka never showed up in front of the tower. King launched, lost a cylinder, the progressively lost most of them, the car trailing a big, white plume of unburned fuel on the top end. But it was good enough for him to get into the field, for now anyway. Now Keith Falconer is on the bump spot at 7.971.

Left Lane: Chris Karamesines Runs 6.074/172.08, Now #7; Best prior run: 7.080/125.46, Was #7

Karamesines started smoking the tires about 100 feet out, then pedaled a couple times, the car bouncing through the middle of the run. It was ugly, but he improved by a full second, still seventh after the run.

Left Lane: Rick Cooper Runs 5.448/182.28, Now #4; Best prior run: 4.945/256.06, Was #4

Cooper's engine almost stalled as he was staging the car, then hiccuped and caught again. He got to half track, trailing raw fuel from a couple of dead cylinders, then all the pipes went wet.

Left Lane: Bruce Litton Runs 4.950/250.88, Now #2; Best prior run: 4.765/304.94, Was #2

Litton made a nice run to about 1,100 feet, then the header flames went out. Bruce Litton's incremental times: 60ft-0.872 sec., 330ft-2.274, 660ft-3.262/249.67mph, 1,000ft-4.129.

Left Lane: Clay Millican Runs 4.738/302.08, Now #1; Best prior run: 4.639/303.64, Was #1
Right Lane: Doug Foley Runs 5.517/201.70, Now #3; Best prior run: 4.843/264.96, Was #3

Last pair of the session. Millican's car appeared to drop a cylinder on the top end, but for the second run in a row he avoided the tire shake that has plagued that car this year. Foley started shaking about 100 feet out and lifted before half track.

With one session left, tonight, it's still Millican atop the list and Keith Falconer is on the bump spot at 7.971.
