EDMONTON, Alb. - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Nitro Bikes at the 2006 eMax Drag Racing Series, CARS RV & Marine & Motorsports Rocky Mountain Nationals presented by TORCO Racing Fuels listing lane, rider name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:

Left Lane: Brian Hall Runs 6.940/201.61, Now #3; Best prior run: 8.282/189.12, Was #6
Right Lane: George Welch Runs 7.008/200.92, Now #4; Best prior run: 7.408/178.99, Was #3

8:53 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 78 degrees, relative humidity 30 percent, barometer 28.10 inches,adjusted altitude 3,540 feet, track temperature 93 degrees.

These two gave the nice Friday night crowd a good show, side-by-side all the way down the track on 200 mph passes.

Left Lane: Mike Scott Runs 6.789/208.30, Now #1; Best prior run: 9.940/108.54, Was #8
Right Lane: Ron Houniet No Time, Now #11; No Prior Run

Houniet broke on the launch in the first session.

This time, Houniet's bike became an uncontrollable beast, resisting all his attempts to straighten it out, finally taking out the half-track speed start timing reflector as he crossed into the left lane, well behind Scott. Scott was long gone by then, with low ET and top speed of the meet to this point.

Left Lane: Jim Schellenberg Runs 13.214/66.94, Now #8; Best prior run: 8.212/150.73, Was #7
Right Lane: Robert Smith Runs 7.385/189.90, Now #6; Best prior run: 13.563/79.07, Was #9

One of these two gave out a loud BANG when they fired the engine. Dunno which one, both bikes staged and ran. Schellenberg's bike headed for the centerline, but he was able to shut it down in time to stay in his lane and miss the timing blocks. Smith still did not make a full pass, but he came a lot closer on this attempt.

Left Lane: Jody York Runs 6.876/174.62, Now #3; Best prior run: 9.083/108.05, Was #9
Right Lane: Andy Beauchemin Runs 7.355/172.23, Now #2; Best prior run: 6.848/202.58, Was #2

Both bikes were a bit unsteady on the run, Beauchemin's front wheel bouncing up and down several times during the pass until he finally shut it down. York kept the front wheel up all the down the track to move into the field. Now Ken Kent is on the bump spot at 7.871.

Right Lane: Kevin Boyer Runs 6.958/202.18, Now #4; Best prior run: 6.903/201.97, Was #4

Boyer kept the front in the air past half track, but could not better his first run.
