GRAND BEND, Ont. - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Torco Racing Fuels Nitro Funny Car at the 2006 eMax Drag Racing Series, Mopar Canadian Nationals presented by Castrol listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:

Left Lane: Gary Cooper Runs 12.916/75.59, Now #2
Right Lane: Terry Haddock Runs 5.482/201.47, Now #1

6:21 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 70 degrees, relative humidity 50 percent, barometer 29.49 inches,adjusted altitude 1,434 feet, track temperature 81 degrees.

Since this is the first year back for Nitro Funny Car, there are no existing track records. There are ten cars entered, so a couple teams will go home tomorrow.

Cooper lost traction on the launch and shut it down. Haddock made a good run to about 1,000 feet, but the car was getting out fo the groove and moving around at that point, so he shut it off.

Left Lane: Paul Lee Runs 5.072/301.70, Now #1

Lee did a job of driving on this one, the car darting from one side of the groove to the other and the header flames steady all the way down the track. It wasn't pretty, but it got him the #1 spot (for now).

Right Lane: Dale Creasy Jr. Runs 4.870/306.01, Now #1

"Peanut" had his hands full here, the car making a hard move toward the wall on the launch, then popping the supercharger in the lights, but he set the bar way down there for the limbo dancers yet to run.

Left Lane: Vincent Arcadi Runs 6.063/154.03, Now #4
Right Lane: Bob Gilbertson Runs 9.511/100.04, Now #5

Last pair. Four of the teams on the grounds elected to sit this session out, saving their resources for Saturday and Sunday. Here, but not making a run today, are Mitch King, Vicky Fanning, Jack Wyatt, and 2003 European Top Fuel champion Smax Smith.

Gilbertson rattled the tires and threw in the towel. Arcadi looked good early, but started to lose traction at half track and shut it off.
