GLENDORA, Calif. -- Michael Padian has been hired as a media relations manager for the National Hot Rod Association, NHRA Director of Media Relations Anthony Vestal announced today. Padian joins the NHRA after nearly a decade as a sports writer and editor at daily newspapers in Maryland and Connecticut. During that time, he covered a variety of sports, including NASCAR and IRL, and most prominently was responsible for coverage of University of Connecticut men's basketball. In his new position, Padian will provide media relations for the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, as well as support other NHRA communications programs and NHRA racing series. In addition, he will assist with research and statistical projects, maintain relationships with national media outlets and contribute to all NHRA Communications Dept. publications. "We are extremely fortunate to have someone with Michael's experience and abilities join our communications team," Vestal said. "He has the work ethic, enthusiasm and desire to constantly improve the programs and initiatives we have developed to promote and publicize the sport of NHRA Drag Racing." Padian received a bachelor's degree in journalism with an emphasis in public relations from the University of Maryland. A native of Torrance, Calif., he recently relocated back to the West Coast and resides in Redondo Beach. "I'm thrilled to be joining the NHRA," Padian said. "I look forward to working with some great people, gaining experience in the public relations field and contributing to the success of the organization during this very exciting time for the sport of drag racing."
